I'm sitting here drinking the last little bit of my parents bottle of wine (I'm 21, it is legal) and I run out and start thinking how wonderful alcohol is (in moderation, anyways). So I go to the liquor cabinet and I see what I have/what dad won't miss. I end up making a wonderful White Russian. It is truly awesome (and probably too strong), and it gets me to thinking: What else should I be trying? So recommend me some drinks.

Anywho, I'll start with my favorite drinks, in order:

Beer. Anything cold, you really can't go wrong. I'll take a Carlsburg over a Heineken over a Mich over a Bud over a Bud Light over a Busch Light any day, but really, so long as its cold, there is no such thing as a bad beer. Except for Keystone.

Whiskey. If it is bad, I'll just shoot it down or weaken it with coke, but I love my whiskey. Bourbon in particular. Brands: Old Fitz for cheap, Buffalo Trace or Very Old Barton for mid-grade (if you can find it), and Kirkland (Costco) for a mid-grade that actually is better than mid-grade. Outside of Bourbon, I'll take Jack (duh) and Canadian Mist. Crown if I'm drinking with Grandpa.

Kahlua. White Russian, just with milk, or alone. Wonderful.

Wine. I've had cheap, I've had expensive, its all good for Mikey.

Rum. Can't understand Captain (I feel like Sailor Jerry and Admiral Nelson are better), but I do like rum on occasion.

Gin. Dunno what I like exactly, but I like a G&T made with Grandpa's gin (which is probably very nice).

Tequila. Whatever it is, I can't force myself to like tequila. It has never made me sick, but it tastes nasty to me. That being said, I love Margaritas.

Vodka. I can't do vodka since a bad experience with it, but since then I've found that I DO like White Russians if they are made with a quality vodka. My choice is either Kirkland (Costco) or Tito's.

So what say you, oh great GRM crowd? What are your favorite drinks, brands, etc?

I like okay scotch, meaning cork.

If I'm having a nightcap after a long day of work, it's probably a Canadian Mist and whatever ginger ale I can get for cheap at the convenience store when I'm thinking about it. I haven't had it for a few months, though.

When I first turned 21, I drank fancy beer with Oskerkraut when he was still in town, but now I'm not really picky. I enjoy the good stuff, but I'll shell out for the poverty packs (4 x 16 oz of whatever). I've had to make cuts to pay for school and PBR or High Life is sometimes good enough.

I just got back from drinking a few corn beers with some friends, but really, it was seeing them for the first time in a while that mattered, not the beverage.

Bombay Sapphire gin is delicious in a gin and tonic. I'll drink that if I'm feeling fancy, otherwise I've been sticking to High Life in bottles. Work's been slow

I am one of those rare people who don't drink. I used to.. and then I got stuck with a job ferrying around an alcoholic uncle who lost his license due to DUIs... spending 5 to 6 hours every night in several bars will kill it for anybody.. or turn them into a raging alcoholic themselves...

Then I got a job working in a club...

I have exactly one beer in the past year

Is that (spelled based on pronunciation) Shlee-vo-witz??? Aka the stuff they drink at Serbian Orthodox Weddings? I had that the first time I ever got drunk, at a cousins wedding when he married a girl who was (obviously) Serbian Orthodox.

I don't, either. I can't claim that my plan to build a car out of water heaters and file cabinets was fueled by alcohol.

White Russians' are a classy drink. For a small twist next time, throw in a spash of white creme de cacao. Adds a nice touch.

Vodka of choice for WR's and mixing with say Sprite Zero is Ketel One. But I don't drop the extra coin on it often, so mostly just Smirnoff. They also sell 80, 90 and 100 proof versions of their hooch.

I love a good Tequilla. Don Julio would be my favorite. Anejo only please.

But mostly I drink good (well what I consider good) beer and wine. Favorites would be Left Hand Milk Stout, Rogue Chocolate Stout, Guiness (only from a place that pours properly and keeps their lines clean), Sam Smith Oatmeal Stout.

Jamison & ginger ale....give it a try sometime, the ginger ale takes the bite out of the whiskey

You can also try shots of Jamison followed by a pickle juice chaser....yes sounds gross, but it really does go down very easy

In reply to N Sperlo:

How I love Schlafly and how I hate that we can't get here in OK. Thankfully a guy at work has fmaily in MO that he visits a few times year.

His truck always has 10-12+ cases of beer for the couple of us back here.

Their Pumpkin Ale is just outstanding.

You've all seen my creations so you know I drink, in mass quantities even.

So when you go for quantity you keep it simple.

Bacardi Silver and Diet Coke...the breakfast of champions and a great all around snack.

My list is kinda the opposite of the OP. I am not a beer fan at all, although I will drink it on occasion. Cannot stand whiskey in any form, but I loves me fine rums and tequilas. I think it's a genetic taste-bud thing or something, people seem to be one or the other.

My favorite drink of all though, is Schneider's (local brand) Iced Tea.

I tend to like simple drinks that aren't too fruity:

  • UV Blue and Lemonade
  • Capt M Tattoo and Coke
  • Crown Black and Ginger Ale with Lime slice
  • Bacardi + Mixers (Margarita, Pina Colada, etc) + Ice + Ninja
  • Firefly Tea, margarita mix and water

Beer:

  • Blue Moon
  • Shocktop
  • Stella Artois
  • Orange Blossom Pilsner
  • YuengLing
  • Whatever else is cold

When I drink Gin and Tonics, you cannot beat Tanqueray No. 10.

When I don't feel like shelling out for the good stuff, New Amsterdam is a reasonable facsimile.

Scotch on the rocks. I like a variety of decent single malts and as long as it isn't too "peaty" I'll sip it.

Tequila on the rocks. I prefer Reposados and Añejos to the silver stuff. A little wood barrel aging makes better flavor.

Good beer. German or czech standard fare like Pilsner Urquell for hot summer days, good IPA and every now and again a Chimay Blue with meals or just to sip on when stronger liquor seems like a bad idea.

Beer Rolling Rock for cheap and light Stella Artois for when I want something better

Cider Merrydown also called Tumbledown in England for what happens after you drink it

Wine The only wine I like is Riesling

Not much for hard liquor

That is a known killer. Too much of it at once will prohibit oxygen from being absorbed into your blood.
