I recommend getting her a Miata, Locost, or Ariel Atom if she's a serial bumper car player; any of these will remind her to be completely paranoid of other drivers. Just kidding - I have to agree with this:

I know another guy in this age range who's son replaced his LeSabre with a shinny new Chevy Malibu. What his loving son failed to realize is that these old boys find these typical sedans too low to easly get in and out of. The tall boxes and the cars in the "Scion Class" typically have big wide doors and chair-like ride height. The squareness of the body results in well defined edges of the vehicle. Be mindful that some have better reward visibility than others. Scion Xb gen 1&2 Nissan Cube, Versa, Sentra Toyota Vibe, Pontiac Vibe Kia Soul Honda CRV or similar cute-utes

I'd agree there - a boxmobile is certainly easier to get in and out of than a more low-slung car.

Unless Granny played baseball ala "A league of their own" you might not want to refer to her vehicle as the

Boxmobile.... just sayin!

In all likely hood this will be her last car, before she retires from driving. Since you were nice enough to help her choose it, perhaps she might sell it off to you for a sweetheart price when she decides to hang up the keys. Maybe a nice caddy CTS-V? Whatever you get make sure it doesn't have a bunch of overly complicated gizmos on the dash. Nice, simple and safe. Hyundai Sonata, Subaru Legacy, Camry, Accord.

How about a nice Oldsmobile? Oh, wait. They stopped making those. Maybe a Buick?

I have a mid 80's grandmother that can, does, and actually PREFERS to drive a manual. I've considered handing her the keys to mine more than once. I've always wondered what a blue hair would do the first time it spooled and she lost traction in 2nd lol.

Hey Laddie ! Have you not seen Top Gear where the presenters Mums were schooled in the art of a proper donut?

I grew up riding in the back seat of my Mom's Buick Wildcat, Rivera(x2) and Centurion. Not manuals but those cars could and did fly with Mom driving.

Let's see if you still feel that way when she plays bumper cars with you.
