Would like to get an extra $500-$1000 a month. During hockey season this is easy, I can ref a few games each weekend and get it. Right now, I’m selling stuff on Craigslist and eBay and want something different.
Interested in hearing what you all do for side income. I’d even consider a “real part time job” if I could get hours to fit my schedule.
It's summer time now, so stocking up on cheap/free snowblowers to sell come winter. Which means it will probably never snow again here.
Still doing the occasional tractor with what is left from the winter stockpiling, but trying to branch into atv repairs.
I'm not sure I have the skills to repeat it, but I submitted a security bug via a bug bounty program and was paid pretty well for it.
I think you'd have to have a knack for that sort of thing to get reliable funds. I'm in information security, but this kind of thing isn't my domain.
Stone-cold pimpin' pays well, or so I hear.

Not as good as it used to. Too much free goods out there now.

I tried the snowblower scheme in eastern NC for a few years. I was a failure.
I build wiring harnesses for hot rods.
Flip parts from junkyard on Craigslist.
Do a little side work for a plumber
But nothing consistent.
For a while i worked friday nights and Saturday mornings at the flaps. Was kinda fun until theday job changed.
I could pick up extra shifts at the emergency vet clinic, but don't want to do 12 straight over night. At my age I'd be fried for the next few days.
They made me a training doctor for some new hires, paid for my old Miata, so that's been good. Both are almost done, so that is almost over.
I've done some eBay stuff, it's a pain if you don't stay focused on it. I would relist things a few times, then not realize that they had sold. Never more than a few days, but you need to ship stuff fast. Didn't have a smart phone then, it would be easier for me now, and I need to get rid of a bunch of fishing tackle. May be back at it again soon.
Yard sales can be surprisingly effective at raising extra cash. When I was in school, we would borrow a pickup truck and go pick up all the discarded furniture at the apartment complexes where the students lived.
That we would then have a yard sale in the fall when school started back up. I also painted apartments for my crazy landlady for a while. That ended when the county took the property away from her. She was so nuts, she didn't feel like she had to pay taxes. The judge didn't agree.

Hey, Doc... a little off thread
you work primarily in emergency? Do you have emergency vet vehicles? Do you do much surgery or just neuter and spays?
depends on what you mean "side hustle" (I hate that term, by the way) As a full time stage electrician, I make some good money, but if I want more, I can go work at any of the other casinos in town as an "on call". I am badged at all of them save the two newest
I work with my friend's brother doing lawn maintenance/landscape. Usually net 500 extra per month. That also means I'm working 7 days a week during good weather.
I’ve always looked for decent paying side jobs and found little.
I committed to working extra at my job and doing more (industrial hose sales). I decided to put in 4 extra hours on Saturday and work 10-11 hours days.
Doubled my salary.
When American Pickers was hot & everyone thought they were going to follow in their footsteps, I made decent cash hitting rummage sales & flipping stuff for others to try & flip. That died out several years ago.
I also had a really good gig doing pc repair, mostly in-home visits for simple problems by “non-native computer users” - aka “old people”. I really got burnt out after about 5-years though.

Landscapers around here seem to average $50-$75/hr. Pick up a couple of lawns in your neighborhood. Grass needs to be mowed every 4-5 days in the Midwest this time of year. 14 mows/ month @$50 per shot = $700/month.

Try to trim down and muscle up a little, then market to a more mature clientele. You'll be rich.

Pays $50/hour for the tinwork. If you do good work, the clients find you.
I would NOT want to do this as a real business or career.

I'll bet the market gets better for you if you seek out even fatter and even older white dudes as clientele
Automotive work. When I was laid off I found out I could make decent money doing it, the only downfall was burning myself out. Lube center 6 days with 2-3 days of after hour work killed my desire to work on anything. For a while after that I was buying and selling vintage bicycles. That turned Into more of a headache then flipping cars.
I don’t have time for anything right now but if I did I’d probably go back to repo depot. When you love what you do you never work a day in your life.
We live in the rust belt. Find a buddy with a fuel efficient car (if you don't have one already, ) and scoop up reasonabley popular cars from the south. Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri aren't that far away from us. Once or twice a month would be enough.

I am told I have pretty eyes.
No side hustles. I always have a list of potential side hustles though:
- writing (blog or book)
- video content on youtubes
- building houses (specific design/features/style)
- Air BNB
- An app I have 3/4 developed but kinda stalled on
tire mounting/balancing for family and friends pays rather poorly but it helps pay for my machines. i occasionally clearance shop then toss the stuff on ebay immediately. it's worked at summit racing and home depot. parting out cars has paid well, but i don't want to do it anymore. i don't want to flip cars that need big work(says the guy who just put an engine in a flip car) but those usually have the best profits because they're super cheap.

There's a very low-brow joke in here somewhere....
Seriously, though, I can thankfully pick up at least a day of overtime for the time being so I don't need a side-hustle. For now.
