I'll be in the Denver area (Golden specifically) next week. I'm not sure how much time I'll have to do anything, but I'll ask anyway.
Are there any cool things to do in the area, in the evenings?
And, what great restaurants are there that only the locals know about?
Went to college in Golden. Great small town. If you have time in during the day, I suggest you take the coors tour. its neat, and there are free beers involved at the end. The locals call it 'Coors Lab', as in, "Tuesdays I have Calculus, Chem Lab, Coors Lab, and then Metallurgy". Golden brewery also has a tour last I checked.
Also, Woody's Pizza is great for dinner. D'Deli has excellent sandwiches for lunch.
Just take a walk through downtown golden, and possibly up and down the creek as well. Also, taking a quick drive up lookout mountain or taking a short hike up either north table or south table mountains will lend excellent views. If you want to get crazy, get an inner tube and walk up the creek a bit, and float down. This time of year there will be plenty of people floating the creek.
If you want to make the drive over to denver, and you like beer, my college roommate owns http://www.denvermicrobrewtour.com/
very excellent tour. But honestly, Denver will be a bit of a hike and there is plenty to do in Golden for a week.
Why are you in Golden by the way? Something with school of mines?

I'm training a company out there to install medium-duty (vehicle) HVAC kits.
Been to Golden once, very nice town. I'll 2nd the Coors Brewery Tour, I think it is the largest brewery in the world and the tour was fun, even though I was I think just a couple months shy of my 21st b-day when I did it and thus did not get to partake in the sampling.
If you are in the mood for live music, the Buffalo Rose usually has something interesting going on, and you won't be far from Red Rocks amphitheater, which is one of the best venues.....well in the world really! You can hike around Red Rocks even if there isn't a show going on-- great views of Denver from up there!

For good food-- especially if you like wild game, there's the Buckhorn Exchange in Denver (holder of CO's oldest liquor license), or The Fort-- both are very good, and lot of fun: (neither is cheap though)

If you like to fish, grab a rod and check out Clear Creek---especially West of the Coors brewery. There is some decent trout fishing, and it's always a pleasant way to spend time.
Have a good time--- that's a beautiful part of the world!
Rebel Restautant. Two guys I grew up with opened the place last year. Definitely a foodie experience. They've been killing it.
Denver. Yeah. Ahhh... Huhuhuh. You can... I forget. Huhuhuh.
If you can get up to Lookout Mountain/Buffalo Bill Cody's museum, it's a great view of the city and pretty cool place.
Golden is absolutely beautiful. Been there a few times. Had the chance to move to the 'burbs of Denver a few years back, and if it weren't for the wildly unpredictable winters, we'd have moved to the Golden area. If you've got time/interest in a fun drive, take Rt. 6 West out of Golden. The scenery is awesome, and the road is twisty and fun. It'll take you all the way to Idaho Springs, which is a quaint little town. You can also drive up some of the mountains out there, which have amazing views.

Mt. Falcon is a great, relatively easy hike that's close by if you're into that. Best breakfast burritos in town are over in Lakewood @ Burrito Express off of Alameda. Get the #1 or #4 breakfast burrito. Great NY style pizza @ Guidos near Bear Creek and Morrison Rd.
Bandimere speedway is also right on the edge of Golden, so take a look and see if they have any events going on while you're in town.
Also, red Rocks is about 5-10 min away from Golden and is WELL worth the trip if you haven't been. Morrison is a cool town as well and a family friend owns the Morrison Inn (mexican resturant). It's OK food, good atmosphere.

HA! Yes, this is true, though I admit I haven't thought about burrito express in many many years. Memories.
It was close enough to my high school that about once a week the gym teacher would let one of the seniors make a run and bring back a burrito for every kid in gym class who had a couple bucks.

How dare you go to Denver and not ask Chris for the best pizza places? I will text you his number.
I've only heard of things to do there when you are dead...

Bob's Atomic Burger. Its across from Coors Brewery. Seriously one of the better burgers i've ever had.
Coors Brewery is worth checking out too.
If you are in Denver, the flagship REI store is cool just walking around.

Ok, so now I have to admit my memories were not as good as I thought they were...
I went to Lakewood, but only because of IB. I lived right off of the field at Hutchinson elementary. I just checked a map, and while I would have driven past burrito express every day on the way to school and back, I don't think it was there when I was in HS. I was thinking about 'Viva Burrito' on colfax (dunno how I mixed that up - maybe it is because I get excited about breakfast burritos). Interestingly enough, viva burrito and burrito express are probably about equidistant from LHS.
Used to cook at frontroom pizza - is that still there?

AFAIK Frontroom is still there, it's been a while since I've been out that way.
