I listen to normal commercial talk radio until someone says something stupid. Then I switch to NPR until someone says something stupid. Rinse and repeat.

The person who earns the quickest switch by far is Hannity. If I manage to make it out of the parking lot before switching him, he's having a good day.

I stopped listening to my favorite (college) jazz station at work because I couldn't stand the Obama-gushing-drivel from the NPR "News" updates. If he's your guy and you love hearing about how awesome he is, that's totally cool, but to insinuate they're somehow less biased (unless I misread your post) is silly.

They are left leaning for sure, but you at least get actual news stories that a reporter researched, investigated, and wrote without insulting my intelligence.

NPR may lean left a little but not much and it is the only news source I put my stock in (I am not liberal and I don't like Obama).

The news I listen to keeps talking about a courier who was shot in the head, but somehow made a full recovery. IDK who this courier is, but for the last 3 years, they've been shot in the head alot.

In all seriousness, I might read them from many sources, but I would not put any stock in anything being the truth anymore.

Well... he is/was a comedian. I don't find what he is doing funny. I find it sad and a little scary.

One consideration as far as radio is Geraldo Rivera. You might not think it from his image, but he is generally pretty reasonable / rational. He is generally right leaning fiscally, left leaning socially, but not wildly. He does not buy the Rep "party mantra" and strange of strange for radio, will not yell down or disparage callers he does not agree with.

It is pretty sad / entertaining to listen to some of the callers (he is on right wing stations). You can absolutely predict some of the calls when he wanders from the "party line" (mostly just people waiting for Hannity, prince of the clowns, to come on I suspect)

Well, that's just like... your opinion, man.

Personally, NPR and BBC are my preferred. They do not balance each other though. I would say they both lean a bit to the left of this country's center. Like the earlier poster, I believe they do the best jobs of presenting complete stories.

If I were looking for two and only two to give the best coverage that balances each other, I'd probably go BBC (bit left leaning and more international) and Wall Street Journal (bit right leaning, more focused on domestic and economic issues).

For the record, I stopped listening to the local Mendocino county NPR station because I found it to be absurdly left leaning. I think "Democracy Now" is the most right wing show they air. I stopped after the gun control debate and one of the guys hosting the show was talking about "chilling videos" that left him stunned on the Bushmaster website for the AR-15. They were talking about the correct hand placement on the grip to properly access the safety and magazine release. When he said "chilling" I expected talk about lethality, muzzle velocity, penetration, and things like that. Nope. Accessing the safety. That's like going on the Trojan website and being shocked that they're talking about penises and ejaculation. I never had any similar issues with the NPR stations... anywhere else I've listened to them.

Seems to me there might actually be an opportunity for someone to present unbiased news stories for profit.

Of course, it would probably succeed and thus be acquired by some large conglomerate, thereby ruining it completely.

Not really. Reason and impartiality do not keep people hooked and sell them things. What hooks people and sells to them are extreme emotions: fear and anger (and lust).

You need to incite people to call in ranting about how the president/congress/whoever is ruining the country with an extreme communist/totalitarian/corrupt agenda that will doom our way of life, not leave them thinking "Well, I disagree with many of the policies, and there are a few things I am concerned about, but I'll need to gather more information to develop a truly informed position on the issue. Fortunately things are actually doing pretty well here in the grand scheme of things, and I have the time to do so while worrying about the pressing matters of daily life."

Edit: And yes, I will include GRM as being in the business of using emotion to sell people things. They just are not using fear and anger. They are using excitement and humor.

These days I tend more towards British outlets. It seems some have actual, live reporters, and they run stories you never hear over here.

I'm definitely not a left leaner, but I've grown tired of Fox (no Hanity fan for sure), etc., but MSNBC is just as difficult to watch. The NYT to me is about worthless, as is the Washington Post.

For sorta real TV news, if you can avoid the constant trial coverage, I like Headline News (a CNN affiliated channel).

It's a sad state when you can't really trust your news outlets, but to be honest, it's always been this way. Even when I was in college studying broadcasting back in the stone age, we studied this very topic. What changed everything was talk radio and Fox. When they came out, people went to the extremes and started the fight for market shares.

Anyway, I usually take my news with a bit of a British accent.

You mean 1% of their content isn't "All hale der fuhrer!?" I had no idea!

Listen: When you're left leaning, stuff that's even more to the left sounds "a little to the left." When you're right leaning, stuff that's WAAAAY right to a left-leaning person is "A hair too far right" for right-leaning people.

Fox news has hardcore liberal correspondents on all the time. Do you consider them a reliable news source?
