Here's the situation. I'm moved into my new house with a big garage. I have a big driveway. I have another itch for a Jeep XJ or Impreza for a winter backup. Both are getting hard to find here, especially without rust and prices are usually too high. Not sure how the Civic would handle getting from the house to the road. It handles the work drive fine, snow tires of course would help even better. I need a toy. I don't have a plow. Would my fellow GRMer's:
A.) Get a XJ or Impreza for a winter/backup car
B.)Just get snow tires for the Civic and save money for a fun summer car
C.) Another option
(D) get an west coast XJ?
What's a big driveway? We used to have a half mile to the paved (plowed) road.
C. Park the Civic near the end of the driveway and walk to the house?
Learn how to ski?
Save the dough for a fun summer project car.

B) Snows make a huge difference
if the Civic handles the roads OK why not just a self-propelled two stage snow blower for the driveway.
Well, from all the replies I get this:
Ski to the garage. Get in my rust-free (west coast) XJ and plow my way to the end of the driveway where my Civic is parked. Then get to work with my trusty snow tires mounted on my Civic. You guy's nailed it. That's why ask the GRM guy's.

Me, I'd move somewhere that it doesn't snow. Problem solved.
Get a snow blower. Make a little trailer that you can stand on and ride while getting the snow out of the way.
Dang. An all original, southern Crx Si can be mine for a good price. Decisions....Decisions. Stupid Cragislist.
Half mile driveway here in the northern burbs of Atl. It snows then ices once a year. I stay home for three days and drink. No problems. That being said stay in Ohio, we have enough Yankees down here already.

My roots come from the south, I got stuck here in Ohio. Poncho and Lefty is playing on Youtube. Still trying to figure out why Lefty split for Ohio.
I survived 12 years with snow tires on a Civic. Only got stuck once, when snow in a parking lot was so deep that the car's floor was keeping the tires from touching the ground.

Woody, I have a huge garage and need a toy and your suppose to talk me into an XJ If I don't find anything by the end of the month, I'll probably try a set of snow's for the Civic. I've been very interested in seeing how well these kind of tires work.

No, you are supposed to try to figure out where he got the bread to go.

Ain't nobody knows.
11 years I've gotten by with snow on an Escort then a Cavalier. With an 80 mile commute I've never missed a day of work due to snow. I do cheat and have someone plow my driveway so that when the wife gets home before my she can pull right in,and if I get in at 3am I don't have to play in the snow.

GENERAL ALTIMAX ARCTIC'S ARE COMING IN 2 DAYS!!!! Always wanted to try snow tires. Well, my dad got a plow for his truck and we stored it in my pole garage. He lives next to me and my brother so we are all taken care of. Now I can start looking for a good deal on a fun car this winter. I figured you guy's were dying to know what I decided.

Rust free Jeep Cherokees are all over the place here. Mostly Grand Cherokees, but still. Check South Florida CL. Fly in, drive home. Nice place to visit if you stay out of Miami/ Dade County. It's 80* and sunny right now. Could be a Grand Adventure, we all need those! Just make sure your AAA is paid up.
