What would you fly and drive back to the Northeast to sell?

So let's say I could fly anywhere in the country for free, and buy a car and drive it back to PA to flip.  Something that would rust out here seems to be the obvious choice, but what?  What car would you be willing to buy in the Snow Belt because it rust-free are hard to come by here?

High miles won't scare off buyers because they run forever but rust kills them. 

Jeep  Wrangler too. I don't understand the jeep market but people seem to pay huge money on crappy examples. 

If I had notice to come up with the money, a small truck. 

If you had storage space, trucks in general do well around here, particularly in the fall. But there are already a bunch of people selling body parts on CL from Cali and Arizona. 

3 series bimmers/MB equivalent were dirt cheap when I was living in NORCAL. Like cheaper than civics and cobalts out here. Like cheap enough I almost sent a trailer full of them back at one point. 

WRX/STi. Everyone around me either has nonexistent rocker panels and quarter panels, or a salvage title because Ken Block Jr. bounced it off a tree showing off his sick rally skills.

Anything with an FJ moniker. They all returned to earth here a while ago.

So, you guys want to head to the South to buy Japanese and German cars and foreign 4wd's??

73-79 f150. Prices have skyrocketed in ohio due to rust. Ill likely have to go south to find my next one.

Full size pickups. Just because so many people want one. They just want it for landscaping and lowesdepot runs, so they dont want to pay five figures for a nice one, but they also dont want to be seen in something with nonexistent rockers and bedsides. They wont bring premium money like some of the stuff mentioned above, but i bet they would sell fast and often. Tune up, fix leaks, wash and wax, profit. 

Rust-free GMT400s!

I think best profit is late 60's early 70's Crammits, Torinos, Malibus, Rancheros, El Caminos, pick um ups,  etc. and they're easy fix cars if something goes wrong along the route home. I'd stick to pre computer controlled vehicles to avoid electrical issues.

Full sized pickups sell for a lot more in the South than in the North.

Northerners use them for Lowes runs.  To a Southerner, they are way of life

Anything clean in California with a bad catalyst.

Whenever someone from the south posts about the new/old truck they just bought, I am always chocked by the amounts they are paying. 

I know a lot of people get vintage cars from the south to sell around here, so there must be some money to be made.

I just checked with Atlanta CL, and you guys are right. Some of the prices are okay, but not much money to be made. Some are full on crack pipe pricing. Disregard my previous post.

Bring your rusty old piece of crap truck to the South, sell it at a premium, then take something else back North. 

I dunno about PA but I'd bet there is a market for older Volvos in New England.

For sale in Charlotte (NMNA) for $2000 - I bet you could (at least) double your money if you drove it to Vermont.

You may be on to something. I have a 2500HD with the 6.0. Since I bought it my truck needs have changed and I would prefer to have less truck for a nicer ride and better mileage. I might have to look into this.

Yup. In the Northeast, you can sell that for 4K within a week. 5K if you are patient.

I was thinking he meant California and similar SW states, where old Japanese 4x4's are a bit more common.

I was also thinking Japanese from the 70's and 80's.  They have their fans, but they're pretty rare up here in the rust belt.

with PAs laws against Rust.. Almost anything. trucks are good as are lower end muscle cars that people can turn into SSs or GTOs

Just about anything without rust will be a rarity in places like the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It's hard to get rust free cars in yooperland

Toyota FJ anything (60's, and 62's are pulling bigger $ than they used to).  4 Runners.  Toyota pickups.  

Old fullsize trucks also.  C10's seem to be climbing.

Must have gone up a lot since I sold my rust free 240 wagon nice condition 125K miles with a stick in CT for 1500.00 several years ago. Are they a hot item there now? I always looked at them as soccer mom cars.

Those aren’t exactly going to be rust free down here 

At some point I want to go out west and drive back in a pickup.  Even ratty but rust free trucks bring decent money up, I’m hoping a clean driver will pay for my trip.
