WHAT?!

Was taking out some old poorly mounted foglights on the Miata last night and discovered a pair of Italian air horns tucked up in the front bumper. I bought this car last summer and thought it just had a weak little sissy horn.

Testing the compressor revealed that it was in fact pushing air so my thoughts turned to the horns themselves. Thoughtfully, I picked up the blowgun on my big compressor and applied 50 psi to the horns.

Now I am deaf and the dog won't go near the car.

And I'm looking to buy a new horn compressor. WOLO at 20 psi is decent right?

Should be decent. I had a set of air horns on my last Miata with just a cheap compressor, not sure what the rating was but it was plenty loud.

thankyou, I needed the laugh. I have used those horns in almost all of my cars. They are actually pretty loud, but you need to lubricate the compressor once in a while and the hose needs to be as short as possible

I have them on the 911 up under the driver's fender - they need to be pointed down or rearward (mine are not). The horns get packed with road dirt and stop working so I have to blow them out and put a few drops of thin oil in the compressor every season. Thanks for reminding me.

I've gota WOLO with two cones in the pickup. Pretty loud. I don't know how much pressure it pushes. Its not very big. I'll try to geta video of it up today.

I must do this one day for my Nissan. It'd be hysterical. I call the current horn the "horn of doom" for it's lack of character and energy.

I have some sort of air horn on my miata, forget what company. It's ridiculously loud and obnoxious.

I suppose that's better than the stock horn, but it's really hard to give a polite little tap "Hey buddy, light's been green for awhile, give a look up" and a friendly wave.

Usually i just give the nice lady (who i'm TRULY not mad at) a heart attack and get a middle finger for my troubles.

Every car should have two horns. One normal one, and the Horn of Death by Bleeding Eardrums.

My father in law just gave me an are horn setup he pulled out of a BMW in the local yard. I think I will be putting it in the Olds

i pulled out an air horn setup from a car at work that tested OK. one of the horn trumpets is cracked but the compressor worked last time i checked it... i hung onto it for no particular reason, would you want it? if i make it to the 22nd autocross like i'm planning i could bring it up if i remember.

You can buy "train horns" at most truck stops....

I have air horns I got at AZ in my Baja Bug.. I could tell the 'lady' in the Mustang wasn't wearing her seatbelt when she hit her head on the headliner after she almost hit me as she changes lanes.

You see a lot of Crazy Red Italian horns on Miatas. They blow a major third, I think. FIAMMs blow a dissonant interval.

One nice trick I've seen is to keep the stock horn and put a long hose on the air horn. A short tap gets you the meep, a sustained push gets you meeWAAAAAAAAAAA

I bought a set of Crazy Reds (they were blue) and they were just Fiamms with a T bracket and an extra fuse. Still not a bad deal with the Miata specific instruction, but you can still get Fiamms pretty cheap at Advance Auto.

Maybe it's not FIAMMs thatare the dissonant ones. I know I've heard both. And while every Crazy Red Italian horn I've seen has been red, the name actually refers to the guy himself. He's crazy, he has red hair, and he is Italian.

These actually had Made in Italy on the compressor if I haven't lost my memory as well as my hearing.

I do have to thank you for providing some entertainment around the office.

Further inspection shows these are Fiamms. I ran the air line to just one of the horns and it has PLENTY of power. But not enough for both.
