Just like the title says--help me identify this poo. It's too big for a cat (anyway one I'd want to pet), more medium/large dog sized, but this dog hasn't been eating Puppy Chow. Looks like it's got berries in it. Right up next to the house, and appears to be a spot the animal keeps coming to: There are 3 or 4 recent poos in there. (For scale and to eliminate confusion, that's a drop irrigation line it's on top of.) anyone know what creature this belongs to?
Margie
It looks similar to fox or bear. Are foxes native to your area? Any neighborhood cats go missing lately?
Coyote? Raccoon? ("medium/large dog" sounds big for any non-nightmare-scenario raccoons, but I don't know whether they poop out of proportion)
I'd say it wasn't radically different from a mystery poo we had in our yard a while back, but A) I never positively ID'd it, and B) I'm not sure how much fauna overlap there is between Oregon and Florida... But coyote and raccoon would make the short list of animals that plausibly could have done it here.
EDIT: After reading Rev's post... I believe there are foxes around here, though I haven't seen one. I haven't actually seen a coyote right here, either, though I think they're less uncommon to spot. I wonder how different the semiurban wild animal list is around the country...
Florida Black Bear.... unless Tim likes berries.
Sasquatch, the peeping tom.
Well it doesn't seem to have bells or mace containers in it, so probably not bear.
Oh, duh, yes--we have foxes. The litterbox habit says fox, too. We have lots of raccoons, and I'm familiar with their scat--way more berries than this. I was apprehensive because this says carnivore, but I can live with Mr. Fox. He is such a dapper fellow. And I think it's too small for bear E36 M3 (not to mention they go in the woods, right, and not next to my sidewalk? Anyway, I will put this down to fox Thanks!

You need a trail cam so you can catch it mid squat.

To clarify, probably not grizzly bear.
Mental note: Don't check GRM while eating lunch!

Sorry about that. I feel you, because I just Googled up a bunch of images of fox poop to confirm. It is fox, btw, and the internet experts say it should have a very musky odor. I took their word for it.
I've never had occasion to share this before, scat from Ursus Americanus on the street in front of my house
I thought the patio would be a little nicer.

Nobody said it was nice, just big.
Mr. Shovel, paging Mr. Poop Shovel.
Well hell, I'm glad I logged in for some quality time with GRM. :)
Sorry about that, I'll try to make it to the toilet next time.
I've got one of those critters in my yard too. too big for a skunk that leaves Possum or Coon.
Weird that it holds it during it's nightly rounds until it reaches my yard, and dumps in the same spot every night.

Thank you. Very useful photo. It definitely rules out the bear
One way to confirm it's a fox: if you hear screaming like somebody just stubbed their pinky toe, while running full speed, barefoot, and then kept stubbing it over and over, it's fox breeding season.
Google "Scat" then click images. Looks like raccoon, and the good Doctor knows his
I am sure you are a E36 M3 expert, but I, too have seen lots of raccoon poop. This doesn't have the seed/berry content. Google fox poop and get back to me ;)
