Why do I lose everything yet know exactly where some obscure thing that I haven't used in a decade?!?
I have managed to find exactly where I thought they were absolutely buried in the garage in a box under a shelf, my replacement airbrush needles.
I cannot for the life of me find my airbrush that I used 4 weeks ago.
Update - Found it, half taken apart, underneath a box, on my desk.
Now I need to find my coffee from an hour ago...

I blame this on my alter ego, the other entity that lives in my brain and tells my body to do stupid things.
The person who finds a solution for this is going to be very wealthy.

Wait until you get a few years older & are 100% sure where something is, only to discover you don't actually have it anymore.

Im going through that on 2 levels. With no working shop for 2 years and everything dumped in the barn by the movers I can find anything that came down here and once I do find it I immediately forget where I left it last. Still on hold for installing my lift because I have yet to unearth my Bosch hammer drill (haven't seen that since the move so at least I cant blame me for misplacing it)

Gnomes.
Shop gnomes. They come out at night and move your stuff around so you can't find it.
I've watched E36 M3 vanish before before my eyes often enough to begin to question my sanity.

This is an actual ADHD characteristic.

Actually found my other lockback knife in the garage a month later(recently) after returning home exactly where I laid it on the shelves with the humming bird feeders....sheeesh
I lost (and later found) a socket once in such a way that it almost convinced me my house was haunted. Had it not been a 10mm socket I would have called Zak and Aaron.

100% truth. When SWMBO & I got together in 2004 I had a list posted of "things I own but can't find". Unfortunately, since our move 6-years ago there's been a few things I distinctly remember having seen/touched/used here, only to later discover they were still back in IL.

I took my watch off so I could check the ATF level in our Odyssey before we left to see the inlaws for Christmas. Still can't find it. That was in 2010 or so....
I spend more time looking for the wrench I had in my hand than actually working.
In reply to bobzilla :
Did that over the weekend. How is it possible to not find something I just had in my hand 10 minutes ago.
This is the story of my life. If I'm not holding something, it could be anywhere. If I am holding it, it could disappear from my hand at any moment. If I put it back where it belongs, I will probably lose it by putting other stuff in front of it. If it's not in plain sight, I'm likely to forget I ever owned it.
I think in my case it's a combination of ADHD and having too much stuff for not enough space.
Compounding the issue for me, my truck & enclosed trailer were stolen while moving and both were filled with tools & car parts. Then about a year later after moving a lot of my stuff into the new place it was burglarized while I was at the old house to sell it. They came with big truck repeatedly and emptied the entire house of almost everything other than the cars that were in the garage. So do I still have the item or was it stolen is always my first question.
Loaning anything to family/friends. I know I own something but end up having to post to the general chat the family has asking who has it. I need to start writing down the loaner stuff on a list.
Or better yet going to someone's house and borrowing your own thing back. Discovering it when you get home and see your initials on it.

I'm in this thread and I don't like it. I was gonna post in this yesterday.
But I couldn't find it...

Or quit loaning stuff.
Some folks think I'm a jerk but I'm a jerk who still has all his stuff.

They're breeding in my shop, too.
