It would be funny if that plane shows up at 2015 challenge with a LSX transplant.
I lol'd but FMV kills that.
No it doesn't.
If there is an actual purchase for less than $2014, FMV would not apply.
That'd be sooooo easy to circumvent.
But anyway, what if this showed up?
The Captain becomes a more complex matrix as more of his personal side is revealed:(apply appropriate salt dosage for source)
Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah was a fervent supporter of his country's opposition leader who was jailed for homosexuality - illegal in Malaysia - only hours before flight MH370 vanished with 239 passengers and crew on board, the Sunday Mirror can reveal.
And in a new twist, it emerged that the pilot's wife and three children moved out of the family's home the day before the plane's disappearance.

If not a suicide thing, might it have been an attempt gone wrong to become a hero by saving a planeload of people after a "Malfunction"? That would explain why, after the initial event, the plane flew around while the person was working out the "WTF do I do NOW?!!!" "Maybe no one will notice?" "Time to hit the drink cart and think about it eh?" "Wait, no, because Muslin, can't do that!!!""E36 M3 what was I thinking?"
OK, new idea! How about:
Pilot wanted to make the plane disappear... so... instead of crashing the plane into the ocean, which would scatter a bunch of floating debris, he gently lands the plane on the ocean, letting it sink to the bottom, intact!
That would be VERY hard to find!

Damn hard to ditch a 777 without tearing off a few things.
I'm still rooting for secret villain lair.

But unfortunately, it's probably at the bottom of the ocean.
My friends and I are already planning a viewing party for the inevitable TV-movie docudrama.

What if the Hudson river ditching was practice? It went in pretty clean. Oooo, lemme get my shiny hat!

Could be one in the same. Guess you haven't seen Thunderball or Dr. No?
Serious question. Why is it socially acceptable to flat out make jokes about this before we even know the fate of the 239 people on board? I've heard jokes about this everywhere. I can't think of another situation involving such loss of life (probably) where this was OK ever let alone so quickly. You don't see a lot of jokes about school shootings, TWA flight 800, 9/11 etc. But this is fair game. Seriously what gives? (Not trying to be a dick honestly wondering)
In reply to nocones:
I was kinda wondering the same thing.
In reply to nocones:
Because there is no wreckage and pile of bodies to remind us how horrible this probably was. It's not 'real' in the same way that flaming debris is.
A plane full of people makes a nice hostage package, too....
I didn't mean it to be mean. It was just a good photoshop that made me chuckle with all theories out there.
Apparently Courtney Love thinks she found it.
Someone, somewhere knows where it is. The Chinese aren't talking and it was headed for Peking...
In reply to TRoglodyte:
The chinese accidentally shoot it down, then hack various computers to make it look like it it went elsewhere and disappeared?

This seems to make the most sense to me.
Aw man I wish I had enough money to make it worthwhile to put everything I have on shorting Boeing stock.

It certainly passes the Occam's Razor test.
It makes a lot more sense than CNN's current working theory that a pack of timber wolves overwhelmed then devoured the pilots and crew. I mean... I could see if it was bears... but wolves? Crazy talk.

Because we are human beings. People react in all kinds of ways when dealing with tragedy and fear. There are no rules. There are people who think they should make the rules, but really, there are none. Seriously.

Big difference between Capt Sully's river landing in daylight and the ocean in the dark. With no horizon to judge and most likely very choppy water, I doubt it could be done.
I agree, but there is one big caveat there. What phase was the moon in? Weather and sea state of course are important also.
A full moon in the middle of the ocean is going to be very illuminating.

No, no, that makes sense. One way they describe flying these planes is that the best crew to have is a pilot and a dog. The pilot is there to feed the dog, and the dog is there to bite the pilot in case he tries to touch anything. (because the plane is so automated)

Well reasoned. Jokes aside, this has been the most plausible take on the scenario I've seen.
