It's embarassing to have to ask this, as I'm in the car business professionally.

When it comes to old VWs, though, I've only ever bought/sold/traded parts cars for my never-ending 72 Super project.

I've got a 74 Super Beetle convertible that runs good and is solid where it counts (front frame, strut towers, heater channels, rocker panels) but needs rear floors.

I have no idea where to sell it. I've put it on samba.com, craigslist and even the GRM classifieds ( http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/classifieds/1061/ ), but nobody seems excited. Ebay would seem like the obvious choice, but I'm not crazy about receiving fake money orders and the like..

Any suggestions?

If it makes you feel better, I did check out the ad when you posted it.

Can you take out ads in the back pages of The Advocate?

I would but their ad space is all sold out - looks like that's the place to sell a Miata

Are there any sites for old Beetles ? Do a search there.

As a note, Super Beetles get far less respect in the VW community than older Beetles.

Someone noted to me recently that it is relatively easy to sell any convertible. You just need to make sure it is clean and make it visible during some nice days. Shopping mall parking lots might be a good choice (a Beetle convertible is a bit of "chick" car) and if it is in decent shape, consider entering it in local car shows. Hell, maybe even park it near a reasonably affluent high school. I am not encouraging leaving the car in public places for long periods of time (there are usually laws) but with some timing (e.g. no sense leaving the car near the HS anytime other than when they get out) you could get some good exposure.

You might also want to try vwvortex but that site is mainly later cars.

Ratghia's right. I love the Vortex for what it is, and have had some great fun over there...but it really is a place for the watercooled folks.

I absolutely hate the split between the aircooled & watercooled folks in the VW community, but I really don't know what to do about it.

I do too. I once suggested that Hot VWs start featuring some early (A1 and A2) water cooled cars and I thought I was going to get lynched. It's ridiculous.

Even Porsche people aren't as bad about the air vs. water thing. And, as everyone knows, if it's not a 911, whether or not it's "a real Porsche" gets called into question (also stupid - if Porsche built it, it's a real Porsche).
