There are some Yukon golds that should be in season about now that are just buttery. I love to slice some of those guys and fry them up for breakfast. A couple eggs, some hot sauce, maybe a bell pepper, good stuff.

Damn, now I'm hungry.

mmm... baby reds in butter... mmm.

DILYSI Dave nailed it; whenever something racist pops up on the national radar the automatic assumption is it's a Southern thing and that we are all Klukkers. Heck, down here the Klan is an object of derision (for the record, I have 2 distant family members who claim to be Klansmen) and as such you just don't see them around. The last big Klan rally I am aware of took place in Indiana.

Methinks too many people view 'Easy Rider' as a documentary.

Baby reds cut into wedges, toss in oil, sprinkle with crushed red pepper and basil, oven at 400' til you just gotta have one.

Sprinkle with parmesian before serving.

Mmmm... beer.

Limbaugh saying outright "I hope he fails" was DISGUSTING and the most un-American sentiment possible.

Seriously? Did you listen to the whole interview? I'm not generally a fan of Rush, as I believe he embodies the idea of being a "puppet" for the Republican party, and the rest of us "Conservatives" get lumped in with people like him, but I applaud him for addressing the question honestly. If a candidate came out endorsing a philosophy that you didn't agree with (pick one,) would you want him to "succeed?"

Watch the first half of the interview if you haven't already. The question comes @ about 5:17.

Never said the t-shirt was from RI--it was seen online.

Look--We ALL know--God forbid if something happens to Obama, the elephant in the room is where it's going to happen. I'm pretty sure it won't be in MA or NH (as I said earlier, it'll be a Midwest militia nut or from the deep South). The pre-election hate/fear/alarm was spooky--now their fears are realized.

It's not just me (I could find this stuff all day) "In states like Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama, there was extraordinary racial polarization in the vote," http://www.csmonitor.com/2008/1117/p03s01-uspo.html

There are stupid, ignorant Southerners. There are stupid, ignorant New Yorkers, and Californians, etc. There are stupid, ignorant white people. There are stupid, ignorant black people.

You and I have emailed and pm'd back and forth a few times on non-political stuff. You seem like a very cool, very intelligent guy. I won't say I'm "offended" by the stereotypes white southern people get nailed with, but I will say that it's goddamned annoying that we're the one group of people in the whole berkeleying United States that it's still PC to berkeley with.

You keep bringing up irrational fear. The fear that Obama will be shot by some crazy white boy from Georgia is pretty berkeleying irrational to me. It seems like you've already got a pretty clear picture of him in your head.

Ugh. I'm over it too. I should've known better in the first place.

Come on Gamby. Several of us have tried to be nice about this. Would you please cut the crap?

These kind of comments have no basis in reality.

I'm a Yankee. Raised in NJ in a black neighborhood, with a black step father, brother, and sister. Active in the Civil Rights movement my whole life. Never once said anything bad myself. It took 20 years of living in the South to come to terms and acceptance of my own shortcomings on this issue.

Northerners have every bit as much capacity for evil or race oriented hatred. They just hide it better.

The racial polarization was everywhere. How many RI blacks voted for McCain?

The one flipped out maniac you referred to could come from ANYWHERE. Please keep your disparaging cultural comments to yourself.

BTW- I live in a VERY rural area- the "deep South". 76% of the populace in my area voted for Obama. Sure there's some jerks out there who make bad comments based on race. Some of them are white.

Bingo. I for one am VERY tired of being told that because i am White and from small town Georgia that i am racist. I didn't vote for McKain because i was racist, i voted for him because the Big O is a Socialist.

Yup, same here. I keep seeing the stereotype n^^^^r and Jew hating Southern redneck who has 3 kids by his first cousin and one by his sister pop up everywhere. FWIW, some of the most racist people I know are Northerners.

I got called racist because i told some black lady in Autozone that i wasn't voting for Obama.

Wrap your brain around that one.

I see a lot of "reverse racism" here. While i don't agree with the term, i'm sure you can see where i'm going with it. And i see a LOT of it. If you reprimand someone at work, it's because they're a minority, if you get a raise and they didn't, it's because they're a minority. If you have a nice car and they don't, it's because they're a minority.

I'm berkeleying sick of it.

I'm a 23 year old white male with a high school education. I'll work for whatever the hell i want, and i'll do whatever the hell i want, and i'm not going to answer to being called racist because i didn't vote for someone you THINK you have something in common with! If that means that i have to work harder and get those raises that you don't, it's because i EARNED it. I get a lot of flack at my company for how far and quickly i've moved up the ladder when i'm just a punk kid with "too much metal in his ears." I don't care. Big corporations don't just hand out money to peons because they feel like it. And they CERTAINLY don't believe in special treatment.

So berkeleying hung up on that "did you vote for obama if you didn't you're racist" bs that she didn't even ask if i DID vote.

No. I didn't. Thanks for leaving that negative memory on me that will PROBABLY last forever.

This thread now equals....

People are f'in stupid when it comes to this stuff. I think we're all on-board in knowing that:

~ not everyone in the South is a dumb racist

~ not every white guy hates every black guy. Reverse is true as well

~ everyone, regardless of geography, has the capacity to hate

The point to my previous post is no matter the intention of a government official a law passed will most likely NOT have the intended effect. VA passed laws dictating that minorities and women have an advantage in getting state contracts. The owners of those companies are minorities or women but the workers, like myself, are mostly white males.

The sky is not falling. It will be ok! Big hugs people. Big hugs.
