I seem to recall that some folks here drive these. A couple of low-miles '13 models have popped up around here lately for decent money.
I test drove a Fit forever ago, and I can't recall if it was a gen1 or gen2. Whatever I drove, it was revving around 4k on the highway. That turned me off, and it's one of the reasons I want to get rid of my gen1 Scion xB.
Just trying to save myself the hassle of test-driving a car I won't want (and all the salesguy hassles that come with it) does a gen2 Fit still rev to the moon on the freeway?
Stick, of course!
Thanks!
Yes it does (rev high). My FIL has one. 2012 IIRC. It also has had a shudder during clutch release since 30k miles and is now burning >1qt of oil/1000 mi and has 95k miles on it. Otherwise it has held up fine and gets ~32mpg avg for him (50/50 mix). He is going to be trading it soon on something due to oil consumption and because 100k is looming
Yes, it does rev a bit high at 70. Don't remember the exact number. We have an '09 that we bought brand new, now with 115k on it and nothing other than routine maintenance. No oil burning either.
I love the thing, for the record. It's starting to get a few rattles and creaks but has been indispensable for moving large amounts of crap, and it's a beast in the snow (with proper tires of course)
We have an '09. FWIW I couldn't begin to tell you what RPMs it turns at any given speed, then again ours is an automatic. We have 150kmi on ours and it's not need anything outside of normal maintenance and wear items. Ours only uses a minimal amount of oil, less than 1qt between oil changes, which seem to run about 10k before the idiot light comes on.
My dad has a 2009 Fit Sport 5 speed. I've driven it a lot and absolutely love the thing. If I had room for another car, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.
We've got an auto 2012 with only 32k on the clock, typically we do oil changes every 5,000 (the reminder is more like 8,000) and we haven't even done brakes on the thing yet.
I'd also agree that its darn near unstoppable in the snow.
My gripe is the fuel efficiency isn't on par with similarly slow cars that seem to be getting near 40mpg highway, while the fit struggles to hit 36mpg during the summer. Winter fuel use averages around 29mpg.
When I was driving the car daily, I was hitting 38-40mpg on the highway most tanks(measured, not the gauge in the dash), and saw as high as 45 on one tank. My wife gets closer to 32mpg though.

In reply to EvanR:
My wife has a 2010 Sport automatic. ~76k miles now.
So far, the only thing that's gone wrong is the driver's side armrest cracked at 30k miles. Fixed under warranty. Otherwise, it's a commercial for why these cars are so great.
Because I'm obviously a "troll:"

That said, it IS the closest thing to a NEW CRX you can get, with seating for four, IMHO.
Blower died at less than 20k miles. They fought me on that. TPMS sensor died at around 30k. They fought me on that. Then they swore that if I didn't "service the (MANUAL) transmission" at 30k, it'd void the warranty. Then they left the drain plug loose & grenaded the tranny, and Honda North America said a junkyard unit was as good as it gets.
Again, I really loved the car. I feel like it was the last REAL Honda (MIJ, lightweight, excellent handling/steering response) but the whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth. Not gonna say I'll never buy a Honda again, but I'll never, ever, buy a NEW Honda again.
Also: Mazda2. Just sayin.
I've got a 2013 sport manual. Almost 20k miles on it. To me it's the best car in it's class/pricerange. I wouldn't call it terrible on the highway, but it is far from great. It's geared as a city car and it shows. Doing 75-80 mph it's right at or just under 4k rpm. The ride is a bit busy and it gets blown around by the wind. The stereo it's one of the best stock systems I've heard in a non luxury car. Woofers in the doors and tweeters up on the dash. All the cup holders. All of them.

Okay, thanks folks. I do 80% of my driving in town, but for the road trips I take, I'm not willing to listen to a 4kRPM engine drone any more.
Check the Fit off my list. Thanks again.

FWIW, it doesn't drone noticeably. My wife has never complained about it on her 95 mile round trip commute, nor have I on some of the 4-7 hour road trips we've taken it on.
I like the Mazda 2, but there aren't many of them around on the used market. Too rich for my budget, probably, too.

Exactly. We've done multiple 1600-mile trips, I used to drive it 100-300 miles daily, and I never once noticed a drone. Now, my '07 Accent...I notice it there.
The Mazda2 is also buzzy above 70. I'm not sure any of the small B segment cars aren't.

These are incredible small engines fitted with rather pedestrian transmissions. If they put sufficiently low gears in them to help with the buzz at 70mph, they'd be horrendously slow in that gear.
Hmm. And they say Fiestas have problems.
Mine hasn't.
Yeah it's not buzzy per-se, but you kinda know it's up there in the rev range. I just wish it had an overdrive 6th. Usually downshift to 4th to pass anyways.
