The clay pigeons are fun to shoot. I used to set them up at 100 yards, then with my handgun shoot out the center without breaking the ring, then shoot the ring. You get 2 targets out of each one. Great fun. I did do this from a bench with a sandbag.

My usual fun “explosive” targets are 12 packs of cheap soda. Can usually get them for 2-2.50$. Thats good for 12 reactive targets. Leave them in the sun for a bit, shake them till rock hard then plink away. Its a GREAT way to get kids and other maybe non-gun people into plinking. Just clean up blasted cans.
And also those cci stingers are FUN! Quite hot for a regular 22. I think it was the velocitor .22 magnums that would shoot a real nice fireball out of my single six.
Between myself, my wife and my twins everytime we go target shooting we burn up around 2k rounds. 1500 of it being .22, I'm partial to federal target rounds for .22 and 9mm. As far as targets go we shoot between 25 and 75 yards using generic splatter targets with wood backstop. My wife loves them because as a fairly new shooter she can easily see each hit.
I do use CCI stingers when squirrel hunting with the .22 though. Both rounds are dirty.
I forgot, as targets, junk. Shoot old cans filled with water, milk jugs as well. Got any fruits or veggies going bad? Targets. Or you could get a shooting car like Nelson Muntz. Three more payments, and it's yours.
If the target car was rust free, it would still be worth big bucks. 1st and 2nd Gen Z28s always are.
My youngest son and I burned through about 150 rounds of the CCI ammo today. It works pretty well. There were a couple of hangups during the first couple of magazines but I'm sure that is due to new gun and being a little on the tight side. I'll give it a good cleaning and lubing.
All in the rifle worked extremely well. My 15 yo had a lot of fun shooting it. He is a pretty good shot considering he's fired a rifle about 10 times in his life. I may end up picking up another gun for him, so we can shoot together without trading off.
For targets, I picked up some reactive paper targets. They were nice because we could actually see the hits from 50 yards. I also picked up a steel swinger that was OK, and one of these. This was probably the favorite and the plastic took an amazing amount of abuse without going to pieces.
