I hope you will all indulge me. I rarely come here asking anything, and I hope those that have had the chance to ask something of me will vouch that I will do whatever I can in my power to support members of this community.
So a few years ago we rescued a chihuahua from a group which gets breeder dogs out of puppy mills and socializes them to life as dogs again. If you've never seen the terrible life a mill breeder leads consider yourself lucky.
Now that rules are tightening in some states many breeders are selling off their stock and closing up shop. On one hand its good news that these places are shutting down, on the other hand most of these dogs are just being sold back into the same terrible life in another state. There are some huge auctions going on very soon and we are going to them with every dollar we can raise and buying the freedom of every dog we can. So here's where I ask for help, we need to raise dollars. First off DCAR is a legit non-profit so your donations are tax deductible. Second we can buy these dogs out of their hell for as little as $10 each. Send $10 save a dog.
I have always been willing to do anything for folks here without something in return....if I have any credit with any of you I'm cashing it in now.

To put my own money where my mouth is. I've been asking $2k for the Yugo project. We do the auction run next Friday, best offer over $1k owns it and ALL the money will go to buying dogs their freedom. Must be negotiated and paid up by Wednesday the 11th so I can assure the rescue group has the funds to work with.
Thank you all

Done.
Pumpkin, Red, Mia, Rorschach, and Mo send their thanks.
What happens with the dogs afterwards? It seems like if this goes well, that's potentially a lot of dogs. And I see nothing beyond a bit of hand-waving on that end. Does the rescue involved have the necessary capacity available for instance? Does this slam them to the point where other rescue activities get curtailed? Etc.

Mapper, many thanks, greatly appreciated.
Keetharax, This is being organized by a rescue organization. There are foster homes lined up for everyone. This particular rescue never puts their dogs back in a kennel, they have a good foster network and although I already have 6 dogs myself I have an acre out back and I'll build a kennel for these guys if that's what it takes to get them out of this situation.
Their rescue activities are primarily getting dogs out of mills so this doesnt interfere with that, it enhances it. Normally getting breeders out of mills is very covert, mill breeders wont sell to rescues, so you have to play the role of breeder looking to buy and get dogs. I've done a few of these because visually Im the last person they'd expect to be in rescue. It's also why Im trying to go to the auction with them because many of them are known and other breeders will out bid them just to block them. No one knows me and I look like a dirtbag so I can bid on anything and no one will question it.
Rest assured this has been well planned out and we aren't taking the dogs from the frying pan to the fryer here.
For those that do not know Jim is a long time carer of dogs and a great GRM friend.
In for a penny as well

Thank you to everyone! I really appreciate the support and if I go out on this run I'll update live, if I can't go then I will at least be sure to post up stats and photos on the dogs we can get out of there.
Showed this to SWMBO this morning.
Kota, Wally, Alma, Annie, Luke, Alex, SWMBO (Sarah), and I are in.
One of our huskies was a breeder. Poor thing was the sweetest dog in the world, but without a puppy to take care, she got destructive. We eventually picked up another puppy and let her raise it. Then we kept the two kenneled together.
What amazes me.. and what got my parents out of the breeding business. Is that places like petsmart and the rest can charge top dollar for mutts (no matter how cute the "Maltipoo" is.. it is still a mutt) while we could not give away a purebred husky for half the price.. and our dogs looked a lot better than what you find at any pet store.
Puppymills are evil and should be shut down. All they do is breed animals to death to squeeze out inbred puppies for people who should probably not have a dog in the first place

Just sorted everything out, barring any protests from work I'm headed out there with them to be their bidder since no one knows me so they won't try to block me. Already had a half day scheduled at work for other things so I don't think that's going to get in the way.
Many thanks to everyone who has donated so far, I got a nice message from the coordinator this morning, she couldn't believe how quickly and how generously you all came through. Greatly appreciated. I'll be sure to send photos of the ones we can get out.
I didnt see this till now. I'm in Jim. I'll echo the words posted by Aussie (?); Jim is a good guy.
(l to r) Bella, Diamond and Coco are in for $10 each.
We just adopted Bella and Coco, two weeks ago. They were surrenders.
Diamond, however, was a Missouri puppy mill rescue, that we adopted two years ago. She was about a year old, and apparently wasn't being a "profitable" breeder. She was a mess when we got her - health, coat, emotions, etc. - but she's doing much better now. Still a little skittish, though.

Thank you all, the GRM community rocks and you are shocking my rescue peeps right now. Almost at $1400 and close to half of that has come from GRM.
Needless to say this isn't an inexpensive endeavor with the drive out and back, emergency vetting for the dogs, many of them will have to have dental surgery right away as they receive no care in the mills and their teeth are rotting out of their head. I've even met some who are missing their lower jaws now because they were so neglected. But they solder on happy as can be. Dogs would make good GRMers, they stay positive in adversity.
I wish I could do more, keep us advised in the future efforts

Done in memory of Butter Ball, the gentlest soul I've ever known. JThw8 : Where in Missouri will this go down? Logistical support may be available along your route if needed?

Middle of fecking no where just south of Springfield it seems (Mountain Grove). Offers for logistical support are appreciated but what will be needed is unknown. The plan is to leave 8am Friday and drive straight through then crash at the hotel, up in the morning to the auction, bid on pups, load them up and turn it all around for home Saturday night. The rescue has some local rescue peeps lined up for some help on that end and at least one group who has done this before to give us a primer on how it goes down (I've done car auctions, I don't know if any of that knowledge crosses over to dogs) There are other rescue groups coming in as well so that bodes well for getting more dogs out without overburdening any one rescue. Ideally we can probably pull 12 dogs just for our rescue based on transport space and available foster homes. The sad corollary here is the cheaper the buy in on a dog the more expensive they will be in the long term with neglected medical issues but those are exactly the dogs we want because they will just be killed off in the mill system otherwise.
If we do come up with some logistical needs along the way I will be sure to reach out.
I cannot say it enough, thank you so much to everyone for the support!
