Oh deity that show was great. Rick and Morty is my new go to but is definitely not for everyone.
I find myself enjoying Brooklyn 99 a lot.
I despise most tv shows. All that are left seem to be crime, supernatural or worse both! (Seriously. ...Izombie?)
iZombie is fun. Sure, there's supernatural. But it's the basic insanity of the premise that makes it entertaining, never mind the randomness of the main character's personality.
Archer is funny but not PC. Castle is fun to watch, definitely not dark.

I don't know how to recommend a show to someone that doesn't want to watch a sitcom, reality TV, or a crime drama. Besides sports, not sure what else there is.
How about Restoration Garage, Wheeler Dealers, Sherlock, Alone ("reality TV" without added drama), or any one of a hundred good documentaries on Netflix?
I do watch fair number of documentaries.
I'll have to try some of the other suggestions.
It seems to me that the dark, depressing, shows are much more prevalent than they used to be.
Take Batman, or the latest Star Trek movie. A good action movie used to be action. Now they seem to be all about the horrible depressing personality of the main character. Sometimes that is a good watch, but it seems like that's all you get, unless you want stupid comedy.
I'm not sure that made any sense. Today is going to be a busy one, I'll try to expound on this later today.
Since you think all TV sucks, ummm, read a book?
'The Jim Gaffigan show' is on @9pm Wednesday on TV Land then repeats on Comedy Central at I think 9pm on Thursday. My wife was stressing out about work and we turned it on. We both and a couple of out loud laughs. It helped.
'Futurama' is great. Lots of episodes to continuously watch. 'South Park' is usually at the top of the list, too. 'Bob's Burgers' is excellent too. 'Archer' is good in short bursts but I can't binge on that show.
There's lots of good documentaries. I love music ones. In no specific order: 'Muscle Shoals', 'Keep On Keepin On', 'Sound City', 'It might get Loud', 'The Wrecking Crew', 'The History of The Eagles', '20 Feet from Stardom', 'Keith Richards: Under the Influence', 'This Ain't No Mouse Music'... There are more but I can't remember them all. 
'Long Way Round' and 'Long Way Down' are good motorcycle trip shows.
The 'Mind of a Chef' is lots of fun if you're anything like a foodie.
And the wife and I read, well I read it aloud to her, 'The Martian' and it's great fun.

If you want stuff that has no depressing elements it's basically down to sitcoms, hidden camera/prank/funny video shows, and cartoons (not anime because those often have depressing elements as well)...I generally don't like sitcoms but Modern Family is so hilarious that I can watch it. Parks & Recreation is a comedy show that looks funny, I've only watched parts of a few episodes. The cartoons mentioned are all good suggestions. You might also like Regular Show. If you like South Park you might also like Drawn Together. It is NOT FOR KIDS though. It's the nastiest cartoon ever shown on TV, much worse than South Park.
If you get Canadian TV channels look for Just For Laughs, a good prank show, and of course the classic Red Green Show.
Mr. Robot's a good show but if you find Batman depressing...well the main character is more messed up than Batman.
If you have HBO/go/now, watch The Brink. HBO comedy along the lines of DR strange love.

I hate nearly everything that's on TV these days too, that's why I'm on the internet so much.
I suspect that fun and intelligent programming is harder to write consistently then dark and gloomy programming. With a million different TV shows being made every year now the good writers, the ones that can write to the fun intelligent and not too heavy stuff, are few and far between and stretched very thin. At least that's my theory.
I know that there are a lot of writers and would be writers on this forum. We should put our heads together and write a show about a bunch of a very creative, but financially challenged car enthusiast who build cheap race cars that punch well above thier weight, and go around solving mysteries and righting wrongs. All the while dealing with a cheaty and well financed rival racing team.
Take equal parts The A Team, Dukes of Hazard and Leverage, then add a chunk of MacGuyver. Sprinkle in some Charlie's Angels then mix well.

I wouldn't say pure happiness. Overall up beat, but very well written with genuine character development.
Yes, I am a bronie and Fluttershy is my favorite.
MLP aside, if you don't want dark, avoid Bojack on Netflix. Think AMC drama in an animal people cartoon. By episode 10 of either season it is dark to the point of being genuinely depressed by it. Otherwise it is a really good show.
And another +1111111111 on Bob's Burgers.
Check out "Departures." Two college-aged Canadian guys travel around the world, having adventures. No fake fights or screaming matches (actually, no screaming matches at all), no drama, just two friends visiting interesting places and interacting respectfully with the locals. The cinematography is beautiful. Don't start with the first episode (road trip across Canada) - start with the visit to Jordan.
I pretty much hate reality TV except for "Departures."

I tend to lean towards British TV: Coupling (which is a sit-com, but oh so good), Foyle's War (detective drama set during WW2, but not dark and often funny), among others.
I don't like bobs burgers.
Regular show was pretty good.
I usually don't watch tv but if it's on then it's mostly on me tv. Emergency, chips, Hogan's heroes, Perry mason, mash. Mostly I only turn it on so the boy can watch Netflix though.

Not being made anymore, there were only 2 seasons and a movie.

Parks and Rec is actually a great show for a Sitcom. Ron is my hero.

Absolutely. Although I was born in 79 so I missed all of that decade.
Castle is a good one that doesn't take its self too seriously. Its maybe past its peak as the earlier ones are better but its still worth a watch.
Another not too serious but excellent show is The Finder. Sadly only made for one season but engaging characters and interesting plot lines. Some humour injected in as well.
Human Target was enjoyable without taking its self too seriously. Much better than say the campy in a bad way Hawaii Five-0.
Departures was great - if you liked it but haven't seen Long Way Round, you're missing out. I'm a big Tony Bourdain fan, so Netflixxing No reservations, The Layover, and the CNN one always makes me happy. Interesting view into other cultures, usually some non-depressing outlooks.
Archer - oh yeah! You know the voice actor for Archer also does Bob in Bob's burgers, right? Another great show.
If you like Muscle Shoals music documentary, make sure you watch No Mouse Music - another interesting, well shot documentary on blues, zydeco, and some others that follows the founder of Arhoolie records. Great watch
Mind of a Chef is pretty good, but for pure production value, Netflix's Chef's Table is hard to beat. Even if you aren't a Foodie you should watch the episode about the Peruvian guy that fire roasts everything. Amazing.

Good offensive to everyone cartoons are the best. Did you ever watch "Tripping The Rift"? Pure awesome.
