Love the idea of the Jeep Truck. Extra points if it's more Ranger sized as there is little outside of the Tacoma for this size beast. Covers all the bases of a truck for me.

The mopar kit was stupid expensive. If they can keep the price inline with the base unlimited and comparable "small" v6 4x4 pickups it should do well. Standard cab please.

On second thought, lets run through it. A base unlimited runs $25k. Keeping with a one piece body, vs cab and bed, there shouldn't be anything more expensive to it than a four door. Looking at the Tacoma, Canyon, and Frontier, things get awfully close or over $30k for V6, 4X4 and any options, and there is no standard cab. Did I just talk myself b ack up to a 1/2 ton?

I am looking forward to all the internet chatter about how the JK is the last "real" Jeep and the new JL is only driven by soccer moms to the mall. It happens with every new model.

Please let it have square headlights like the YJ to rile up the fanboys even more.

In reply to logdog:

I remember hearing that about the first Wrangler; "Rear jeeps have round headlights!"

I will put my money where my mouth is for one. But a modified used Rubicon with a action rear bed kit on sale for about 4K would be a now option.

If they actually build it, and it's cool looking, I will strongly consider buying one if it's not absurdly priced.

Jeep's FB page has been posting pics of J-series trucks for the past year or so, and every time they do, my response is the same:

"Stop posting pics of cool Jeep trucks and BUILD ONE ALREADY!!!! And please make it look like a J-series like the concept trucks you've built recently!"

Last time I posted that, I think I had over 20 "likes" on the comment. Maybe they got the hint.

They already made it a concept, now all they have to do is make it legal.

There has been lots of speculation for awhile with Marchionne moving Cherokee production from the Toledo plant (where the Wrangler is built) which signals another product line coming in. A few days ago, he hinted at the Wrangler pickup. I guess he finally confirmed it today. I'm pretty sure it will still be solid axle front and rear. The 3.2L Pentastar might be replacing the 3.6L and a diesel might finally be coming. I also heard that the 8 speed auto might be used. There will be more aluminum used in the body as well but I highly doubt the entire tub will be aluminum (ala F150). They are also making changes to the styling like laying the windshield back a bit and sloping the grill for better aerodynamics and ultimately better fuel economy. Can you tell I'm excited? LOL Make mine a crew cab Sport with the 8 speed in Tank green please

Pretty much spot-on, Stanger.

A memo was just posted about this at Toledo North Assembly,(TNAP), where the Cherokee is currently built. As it stands right now, they will stop Cherokee build towards the end of March, 2017, to convert the line to the JL. Initial Launch-Curve for JL is expected for July.

During that time, Toledo South will continue building JK. Once the JL comes out of launch, TSAP will re-tool for the pickup.

Pedestrian impact requirements are going to make this thing ugly at the front. Along with the laid back windshield for MPG's.

Am I the only one that hates that style grill?

No problem, it's already ugly at the front.

Want to know what a Wrangler pickup might look like? Ask Land Rover. We're talking about the equivalent of a 110 pickup.

Canvas cover for the bed, removable cab roof, crew cab options - it's all there. Even the fold down windshield.

Yes, you are.

Given the huge Jeep aftermarket, expect companies to offer any of these looks as aftermarket accessories.
