You can buy Sharpies in bulk at Sam's Club. They're one of those tools - like tape measures and razor blades - that are only possible to find if you completely flood the area with them. I don't think I ever get far enough away from my 10mm socket to lose it.

My wife still doesn't understand why we have approximately 20 tape measures scattered throughout the house. I keep explaining that that's the only way I'll actually be able to find one when I need it.
If you are talking about not finding the dustpan...guilty! If you mean going to get a cotter pin and finding everything BUT cotter pins...Guilty! If you mean the stash of new lawn mower parts you bought last year on sale...Yup! Or the drum brake job that you are putting back together and one part is missing even though you haven't moved more than 4 feet so you phone a friend AND send your brother to a stash 5 miles away while you fail to find it...been there!
This is one of the reasons I embarked on a severe cleanup 3 years ago. I was losing BIG stuff...69 Mustang tach dashes, rear disc brake setup for an Escort, even a set of seat covers.

My father organized his stuff for the most part chronologically as opposed to categorically, and it has been quite the struggle trying to sort through what he left behind. Despite the 70+ tons of stuff my uncles hauled in for scrap, I'm going to pretty much have to empty every building at once, sort stuff, then load it all back in to figure out what is there.
If I am holding something in my hand, and not looking directly at it, my arm takes on a mind of its own and will decide to put the thing in some really weird place without telling me about it.
Nope. I just ask my wife where I put stuff and the problem is solved. Even if she's not home and I call her. Even if I have moved the item since the last time she was home, she still gets it right almost every time. It's like magic.
