to me, that looks like something about to become a monitor-skin wallet

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...we had a green iguana as a pet for almost 15 years. She was about 5 ft long tip of nose to tip of tail for 11-12 of those years.
She preferred the tub to the shower...

Tons of them living in our plant beds. Can't move a handful of mulch without disturbing one.

I've found two in my house in SC. First one was in the shower as I was getting ready to join it. Second one crawled out of the newspaper as I was removing the rubber band and starting to unroll it. Both times I didn't have shoes on or else I would have stomped them flat.

How big do skinks get where you are?
We get them about 12-14", and FAT. They don't make momma happy.

Savannah and Nile monitors may be mean when you screw with em, but the freaking Tegu scare the bejesus out of me. Mean doesn't cut it when it comes to them. Not to mention they're as aggressive as salt on a slug. I've heard stories of people getting their outdoor cats back with bloody stumps for tails.
In reply to the OP, we have a fairly large tree frog that tends to hang out in our bathroom during the spring/summer he usually disappears mid fall. My wife even went out and bought a frog shower curtain for him to hang out last year.
The greenies are common around the house and freak-out the cat who only gets to watch from a window - usually. Occasionally one finds its' way inside only to become a toy and/or a nasty surprise for bare feet.

Anolis carolinis....that's the native species that used to be common here in central FL...now the brown ones have taken over

I though that too until I had one of these come up the shower drain and try to accost me. Ever hear a grown man scream?

That's one of several good reasons why, when living in southeast Florida, I left the geckos on the ceiling alone. Lizard poop is far and away better than two inch Palmetto bugs. Gahh.
When it the Florida Keys last week I saw:
larger lizard:
and of course the iguna and little lizards posted previously.
Didn't see any gators though.

Most of them are closer to 8-9" here, but we occasionally see a whopper.

That's huge.....the only blue tailed skinks I've seen here are on the boardwalk at a county park, and they're probably under 6"
BTW +one for letting the house gekkos into the house. I agree entirely.
[edit: here's a long list of our non-natives: http://www.myfwc.com/nonnatives ]

Yeah, that's a typical size around here, in my skinkin' experience.
