You specifically buy cars with damage because they're cheap and no one else wants them.

When you know what car each specific person in your office drives so you can chat with anyone that might drive something cool.

When one of your tablet's most frequently visited sites (other than the GRM forum) is CL autos and you're not even in the market for a car right now.

I started a new job recently and the first thing I did was peruse the parking lot to see if anyone daily'd anything cool.

when you remember important dates in life (marriage, kids birth , houses purchased , jobs had), by which car you had at which time. Ownership of cars become the true marker for your life

so true!

Same. I also keep a memento from each car; plates from one, a key from another, etc.

Along that same vein:

When you have more pictures of your cars and projects than your own children. (Guilty)

When you buy parts for vehicles that you don't own yet and the purchase is not guaranteed. (Guilty)

When you buy used engine parts off of eBay to display in your house. (Guilty)

When you have random storage tub(s) that contain parts from past vehicles but you can still remember which one and why you have that part. (Guilty)

I also seek out other enthusiasts at work. Its disappointing when people you think are enthusiasts turn out to be more about the image they think their car projects and they don't know anything about cars/racing/etc.

When you have an autographed GRM shirt . . . Not a holy grail autograph (I’m looking at you JG), but nonetheless.

When you've had the same family photos in your office for ten years, but have to change the Hot Wheels display every week because they released one in a new color with different tampos.

When I drive by this company I always check to see what cars they have - I know they don't do much with cars but it still seems to be a lot of cool cars. Then I end up driving by EVERY time I'm in the area.

If you are ever in South Bend, IN be sure to drive through the Tire Rack parking lot - a ton of cool cars.

How many of us have a local "circuit" that takes us past the places where we know there are cool cars?

When you know all your friends by the sound of there exhaust.

when your idea of a fun night with friends is hanging out in a garage working on someone's project.

I like that one too, but my first thought was that every place I've lived I'd kinda mapped out a local "test track". Just a quick nearby loop to evaluate any changes, upgrades, or new vehicles.

When you know what someone drives but maybe not their name.

You have Autotrader.com, Cars.com, Bring a Trailer, Craigslist, Search Tempest in your bookmarks.

You tell your spouse 'I might be here awhile' when you first get to an auto show.

You walk half the parking lot away when at a store to go look at a vehicle.

You see a nice vehicle driving by and say 'I wouldn't kick that out of the garage'

You know specific color names by manufacturer.

You can sound off what aftermarket parts fit vehicles you don't have anymore.

You must visit the toy section of a store before you leave to see what their current Hot Wheels/Matchbox stock looks like.

When vacation pictures consist of more vehicles that aren't in the US more than landmarks or people.

I started doing this in 5th grade - we'd go check out the plastic model cars and Hot Wheels when shopping. Now 47 years later I still do this.

After Christmas my dad would grab me and we'd hit up Woolworths and Kmart and check out the HO train cars since they used to go on sale like lights and wrapping paper.

It’s always an exciting day when the grocery store puts out a new batch of Hot Wheels.
