What I want to know is why does it have to be pubic hair? Of all the places on the body that grow hair, it just has to come from the genitals?

I remember in college I sliced my arm on a Flex-a-Lite aluminum radiator fan.  I called my girlfriend who was working at Rite Aid and said, "don't panic, but do we have an really big band aids?"

She came home to help, but by then I had put a paper towel on it and wrapped my arm in duct tape.  I was just trying to stop the blood from dripping on my hands making the wrench slippery.

She super glued it and went back to work with a little bit more of a ghostly look on her face.

I’m an electrical tape guy - until the wife gets home. She’s an ER doc and will either glue or suture me up depending on severity.

Hess, any thoughts on superglue and how safe it is to use on wounds? Is there a medical grade that I should keep in my first aid kit?

I never saw it used.  If you have the patient there, then close it up with suture. I've read of it being used.  A case where they had to keep going in to the gut every few days or something, they super glued a zipper in.  Done.

Medscape sez that Dermabond is 2-octyl cyanoacrylate and FDA approved for closing incisions. The super glues and even the vet super glue like Vetbond are the previous version of the closure stuff, butyl-2-cyanoacrylate, and are much weaker.  The 2-octyl cyanoacrylate was developed to be stronger during the initial closure stage.  After 5 days, healing is going on and it's all about the same.  The 2-octyl cyanoacrylate looks to be sold as Dermabond, so if you really want a super glue type "thing" to keep around for booboo's, then hold out for it.  Here is the same 2-octyl cyanoacrylate in a different brand:

https://smile.amazon.com/Meridian-Surgi-Lock-Instant-Tissue-Adhesive/dp/B001M5ET22

No experience with it, of course, just my google fu. The main drawback looks to be a much weaker wound closure than sutures, and not recommended for areas that get stressed.  Now, if you cleaned it first with some providone iodine solution (if you're not allergic to iodine,) then kinda tacked it together with a dab of super glue, then went after it with a staple-i-fier shooting one per 10CM, unlike the idiot in the ER that shot a full staple-ifier into my scalp after the dumb berkeleying kid in a Jeep totaled my Elise, that would probably hold.  You could probably do all that one-handed.  You know, 'cause you can't get to it with 2 hands.

I once wrote a short "shop medicine" article for publication in Teh Mag.  It went nowhere.

Something tells it went on the wall of at least one of the staff shops..

I have a couple of those around too, along with some pre-loaded sterile sutures.  I figure I can muck up pretty much anything for long enough to get to the professionals.

I was cleaning up some metal to weld onto under the hood of our bronco.  I had a gnarly wirewheel on the 4” grinder and was nearly done. Of course I had my goggles on - I’m safe. (Except I wear chaco sandals all the time.).

There was one little section that I couldn’t really see so I leaned over and got closer to see as I was getting the last of the paint off.

I never for a second thought that what I was doing was sketchy but changed my mind as the wheel grabbed something and shot right into my face.

It felt like I just got hit with a fastball in the nose.  I dropped the grinder and grabbed my incredibly numb nose and hoped there was no blood. I was hoping it was just the back of the grinder that hit me and possibly broke my nose.

No such luck.  Blood everywhere. My wife was right there and I asked her to look and see if I was missing any part of my nose.

I moved my hands and she said, “Oh my gosh.... I can’t tell.”

It ended up chewing up the end of my nose.  I probably should have gone to the hospital but I was so close to welding in this last patch and wrapping it up....   so I flushed it with water and put some neosporin and sterile gauze on it.  Went back outside, finished wirewheeling, fit the piece and burned it in

I kept it covered and juicy for a few weeks and the only lasting result is that one nostril is longer than the other where the wheel got in and bored it out 2 over.

 Only got one pic.

Sorry to drag up this old thread but I wanted to add my experience with Dermabond. I had 2 incisions (mole removals), one on my side just below the pec and one on the back of the neck right at the shirt line. Both had internal sutures and then were closed with Dermabond because I get a rash from bandage adhesive and the Dermabond supposedly requires no covering. 16 days later, the Dermabond on my side is still there, and I assume the would is healed (it's supposed to fall off on it's own). But the neck is a different story. I noticed some of it coming off after 24 hours, and then covered it with a bandage for 5 days. Then I left it uncovered and within 24 hours one of the internal stitches popped. So now it's just healing on it's own.

Next time I'll take the stitches and the rash, thank you.

Picture it: Cleveland, 1985.  Young Knurled and his mother and an old friend of hers (who is still a friend of the family, and visits every other Saturday to this day) who we shall call Tim, because that is his name, are walking along an (abandoned) railroad track in the park at some cookout.  (Behind the Kiddie Park off of Memphis, for you Cleveland GRMers)  7 year old Knurled is about ten paces ahead of Knurledmom and Tim.  Tim jokingly shouts "TRAIN!"  Young Knurled jumps facefirst off the train tracks down a gravel embankment.

Now, I don't remember crying, and I don't remember it hurting, but I do remember Mom showing me to all of her friends and all of her friends looking at my face and saying things to the effect of "Oooh, yeah, that's going to need stitches."

Knurledmom had just bought a new car, a Buick Skyhawk.  (Grandpa wanted her to buy a Cimarron because Cadillac, but she was like, hell no, this is $12k not $16k, and this is 1985 that is a lot of money)  I still remember having my shirt off, lying down on the back seat, with my head on my shirt, so I didn't bleed all over the new car while she took me to the hospital.

Anyway that's why I only have half a left eyebrow

I am exceptionally clumsy, and as a result, very good at this game. Mrs. P says look on the bright side, your body will be really easy to identify because of all the scars.

I'd just brought my brand spanking new YZ 125 home last summer, and being too late to go riding decided to unload it from the truck and boot around the property a bit. I was wearing shorts and runners, but made sure to don my helmet because clumsy.

The ride was great and as I pulled in to the shop and shut it down I jumped off as I always do, and realized quickly that the layout of the bike was a little different than the Husky I've been riding for the last 8 years. The pegs, new and sharp, were just a little further back and I caught it perfectly. I couldn't feel it, but I knew it was bad. And I knew it was bad enough that I didn't want to look at it.

I have one neighbour and they were out in their yard post BBQ. So rather than fight Mrs. P, who's more squeamish than me, I ran over and asked Mrs. Neighbour if she could look at it. She did, and did a commendable job cleaning, covering it with gauze and wrapping it with electrical tape.

It was heavy stitch material, but I heal really well, have a really high pain tolerance ( because clumsy) and really really wanted to stay home and drink beer instead of sitting in Emerg sucking hind tit.

So she wrapped it, it bled. I wrapped it, it bled. And this went on for a few weeks because I kept going riding (new bike!) and it kept breaking open. I even started a new job 2 days in which was a little awkward.

It left a really nice scar that, if I put two dots above it with a pen, it looks like a happy face just below my knee cap.

I also took a pic of the new and sharp foot peg with all the hair and meat hanging off it, but I can't find it

I was putting up snow fence last fall when one post went in further than normal with one hit so my driver came off the top of the post and since I was already on the down slam by the time I noticed the back hit the top of the post bringing the 11# post driver over into my scalp with most of the force I could muster. I didn't pass out but I sure as heck vomited and thought I had gone blind because my glasses were covered in blood. I walked over to the house where my wife was standing by a back window and she just oh great what did you do now? She's a surgical nurse so I had her clean me up and went and finished the snow fence before heading to the hospital where they rushed me past all the waiting people (probably due to the copious amounts of blood on my forehead) and got me staples right up. I would have just taped it if she hadn't insisted.
