I was once told a story about an airport crew that stuck a 5 gallon pail of ATF in a snowbank for one of these things to hit. Apparently they had to talk the operator down.

I'd maybe add some old clothes and a couple of sneakers

In reply to Karacticus:

Thats funny, but actually happened at a resort in OR, a guy carved himself a snow cave in the bank of the parking lot.... They have a lot of no camping sings up now. One of theirs is decked out in Ferrari livery too.

First a call to someone to change your screen name to Zombie Appleseed. Second, you have a built in early warning system for when the Zombie apocalypse is starting, your knee will start involuntarily trying to bash your own head in. That's the time to run! I like the take to water idea, but where? I'd say you need a body of water large enough to be out of sight of land for either Zombies or a collapse of civilization. The issue is assuming you are in North America when the do doo hits the spinning blades where do you go? You can’t leave the continent very easily so you’re stuck basically here. The Caribbean has hurricanes, you could go to the sea of Cortez I guess. The pacific is pretty harsh. I favor the Great lakes. Leave out Superior, but even Southern Michigan and Erie get a lot of ice in the winter. You could go far enough off shore to avoid the ice, but it’s still pretty harsh. I think I might head for one of the smaller uninhabited islands for the winter if I could get the boat out of water. One huge advantage of the great lakes is water is no issue and you don’t need desalination. Back to Tuna and the fall of civilization. I really don’t think it’s gonna happen to the extent many preppers do. Look at serious was zones. London during the Blitz, or most large German cities. Life was hell there and people (on the whole) weren’t killing each other, instead they banded together. Now the Siege of Leningrad where food was totally cut off lead to wide spread cannibalism but there was no food getting in. Look at all the parts of the world with unrest today. Look at Mosul, ISIS is being forced out, but for the last couple of years other than the occupying force (ISIS) the people there have tried to get alone. The majority of people even in war torn zones are trying to live their lives and get along day to day. Even If there isn’t an invading army blocking food and it’s just survival without an opposing force, this country still has the ability to produce food in massive quantities. If you’ve list a significant percentage of the population to disease or something, what’s left can feed the rest of us. Heck I’ve read that you need less than 2 acres to be 100% food self-sufficient for a family of four. I don’t know if that’s true, but I can grow a hell of a lot of veggies in my 20’x3’ veggie garden and lots of deer walk down my suburban street. Once the initial unrest (or out break or attack or whatever) is over then I assume that people will get along and help each other rather than try and kill each other. Bad guy gangs are a great plot driver for the Walking Dead or Z Nation, but I think basic humanity is better than that. Surviving the initial attack is the issue. Grab your bug out kit and get out of civilization for a while then take stock and settle in. BTW, being a shiny happy liberal I don’t’ think life as we know it in North America is going to end, even after Nov 8th.
I agree to a large extent. Obviously we are essentially 100% opposite politically, and I don't think that humans are "better than that", but prepping by making sure you have enough food and water in an emergency makes sense. Making sure your windows are protecting you from people trying to reach in and eat your brains, well that's just silly.

Or how about your windows protecting you from people trying to get your food and water.

Lighten up a little.
