NMNA
Best year and model of the non-turbo RX-7, in my opinion. Turbo seats, multi-piston brake calipers, clutch type LSD (small carrier), mechanical oil metering pump and the three spoke steering wheel. This is also apparently a rust-free car.
If I wasn't on a product haitus, and kind of tired of RX-7s after owning double-digit numbers, I'd be interested.

looks like a perfect car to turbo swap
Wasnt there a GTUs as well?
I vaguely remember these saying GTU on the front fenders, but this one does not have the stickers.
GTUs was the S5. Viscous LSD, electronic OMP.
The one I have linked above may not be a real GTU. I didn't go look at it, but it does have many of the signs.
Well, hell, I posted this in the wrong forum.
It looks like a GTU since it does not have the rear wiper. But I am no expert.

That is where I meant to put it, yeah.

The GTUs also had some aluminum bits that the GTU and other models didn't have IIRC.

Done.
I loved my 88 GTU. First car I bought when I came to this country. It was only after I sold it I realized what a GTU was. Would love that car back. this looks a bargain.

Just watched this one the other day.
Motor Week Retro '89 GTUs
Funny that they were calling the Miata the Answer in the video, even that far back.

I don't think so. The gtu bbecame a base model with crappy brakes and other lame stuff. The gtus was similar to the gtu but not *quite * as hardcore. The gtu in an s4 version is the shizz.
Looks clean
I really like these on paper. I need to drive one
How big a deal are apex seals, isn't the issue really if the rotor housings and rotors are messed up?
A low mileage RX-7 of this age is tricky. It could be just stuck apex seals from not getting driven, which is sometimes able to be solved without taking apart the engine.
Or, the crappy OMP lines may have just cracked, it really did throw a seal, mice got in there, a coolant seal went and it is rusty inside or a ton of other things. Any of those mean it is shot and you're doing a rebuild.
If it is the first one, no worries. If it is the second one, and you want to do it right, it's probably $2500 worth of parts, minimum. I'd want to get the turbo rotor housings, though, if I went new. Easier to make the exhaust ports bigger. =)
