Seriously, the home across the street from me is for sale. Biloxi, MS - a block from the beach & can see the gulf from the front yard. 1600 sq-ft, 3bed/2bath, 2-car garage, corner lot. It's listed at $128k, my gut says $110-$115 would buy it.
This is a nice older and peaceful neighborhood. The MS Gulf Coast is full of jobs, entertainment(10 casinos, 9 of them are 4-miles away or less, minor league baseball team), good food, etc. There is a drag strip on the edge of town, autocrosses 40-minutes away, and NOLA Motorsport Park is 1.5 hours from here. There are various circle & dirt tracks within 30-45 minutes of here too. There's a huge national forest 20-miles north of us, with hiking and MTB trails. There are also some ORV parks around too.
Property taxes are cheap. I'd estimate this home would be $1200/year or less. Utilities, fuel, food, etc. are also as cheap/cheaper than they were in IL. All in all it's a pretty damn nice place to live relatively inexpensively.
