I'm looking for a nice shifting, regularly operating Ls1 T-56. An upgraded f-body unit would be ideal.

Alternatively anybody have a line on the cheapest place to get a T-56 Magnum-F shipped to Vancouver Canada?

Curtis has (or had) a very nice new t56, but I don’t remember if it’s set up for the LS or not. And being new, it ain’t cheap! Nice price for a brand new one, though.

I have one for a 97 LT1, but it only comes attached to the car!

id like to know how much you’re finding them for, as it may affect what I ask for my car... last time I looked on e-bay, the least expensive complete trans was over $1200... but I’ve heard mine would only be worth $350.

In my area they are asking $2500-$3000 for an lt1 t-56. It's crazy how expensive they are but that's how it is.

There are a couple on eBay under $1500.  Looks like the 'vette ones usually have the tailshaft section removed which knocks the price down substantially.  No clue what that would be to replace, though.

I could meet that price and cover the shipping, if somebody wanted it. Wouldn't make my wife happy , me having to pull it myself in the gravel, with no lift, but... I'd do it!

I maybe interested in one that bolts to at LT1, for my Roadmaster. I wouldn't mind buying the whole car, if you are reasonably close. Let me know, if Catatafish isnt interested. Thanks!

I do have an LT1-prepped T56, but it ain't what I'd call cheap.

Started as a TNET 1247 (viper) that was purchased brand new from the Mopar parts counter, then modified with the LT1 input shaft, front plate, and tailhousing.  Rear tailhousing was bored out and a viper bushing pressed in so it could retain the monster 30-spline viper output shaft.  Direct bolt-in to a GM application with the obvious need for a viper slip yoke.  I have well over $4000 in it.  I know I can't get that money back, but I can't take challenge money for it.  It could be easily swapped to LS with an input shaft and the correct bellhousing.  If you want a beefy, zero-mile, never had fluid T56, I have it.... but not cheap.  The whole story is that we bought for a customer when I was at the custom shop.  He wanted us to build his 67 Challenger with a Viper V10 and six speed.  The customer said "go for it," we stupidly went for it before getting his money, then he hit hard times and we had to cancel the build.  I bought it from the shop and took it to Irvine Gear in Irvine CA to have them convert it for LT1 duty.  Brand new, with receipts, never installed, never had fluid in it.  It even has an LT1 bellhousing on it which you could possibly sell to cover the input shaft swap or conversion clutch parts to make it work as-is.

I was planning on putting it in the Impala SS many moons ago, but that car now belongs to EastSideTim

If you want it, we can talk, but I would sooner find a project to put it in than take a huge bath on it.  Not trying to sound like I'm playing hardball, but it is an expensive and desirable piece.... just with an unfortunately tiny market.

I also have an LS T56, but A) it's bookmarked for the LeMans, and B) I had Rick T56 modify it, so I have a pretty penny tied up in it as well.

After that rant, you probably don't want it, but if you wish to chat more about it, PM me.  But PMs sometimes don't work.  If that happens, hit me up at curtong at gmail

Thanks for all the posts guys, my transmission was finally put together and I got the car back on Friday.

I bought an ls t56 from Florida years ago and it's been sitting waiting on my ls Miata project. Recently I decided to put it in my 87 supra behind an lq4. As it turns out my "rebuilt" trans was anything but. Several gears were pooched and it ground in and out of gears. The transmission shop didn't have any cheap solutions so I bought a 2000 corvette t56 to swap the innards into the firebird case.

It turns out you need a GTO main shaft to make corvette internals work with a f body, and of course they are on backorder throughout the United States. Ebay saved me from looking even more foolish, but I still had to return to the transmission shop 2 times to convince them that the mess of parts I had would work together.

I finally got the car back after 3 months on a job I thought would take 2 weeks. It's now a firebird, corvette, gto, hybrid t56 for only a little less than buying a new Magnum-f

I'm going to be looking for a LS T56 soon for my LS XJS. The used one's are expensive and you don't know it's true condition until it's too late unless I buy a donor car with one. So maybe I'll just go 4L80E because I don't want to play the T56 game. Or maybe go with a Nissan CD009/A and an adapter to the LS. You used to be able to buy them brand new for $1600 ish.

I have a crunchy first gear synchro in the V1's T56.  apparently they have a funky shifter yoke setup that makes it painful unless you have the right setup.  need to just pull it and have someone the upgraded synchros and carbon block setup.

I'm fairly certain you have to replace the main shaft to convert it over to a slip yoke.
