It looks like our old switchable 2A/10A car battery charger that was pretty good at raising the dead (batteries) has finally met its match in the form of the battery in the Maxton and shuffled off its mortal coil.

OK, enough with the jokes - I have a few Battery Tenders including a 3A model, but I need one charger with more oomph that's halfway decent at resurrecting questionable batteries. Doesn't need to have maintenance charging capabilities as we got plenty of those already.

Any suggestions?

I've had very good luck overall with my CTEK. Model number is something like US 2001, it plays very well with AGMs and Odysseys as a bonus. It has a rejuvenation setting.

Thanks. Looks like the Multi US 7002 has the sort of oomph I'm looking for including a desulphation mode. Hopefully it'll be the last charger I need to buy for a while.

That's the one. I have two, they're serving me well.

Luckily i have a old charger from 1980.  No onboard computer.  Just throws out 10 amps no matter what.  Brought many batteries back to life.   But, today I would buy the CTEK unit because of AGM and Lithium.

Just got the CTEK 5.0 for the Outlaw Bug from FedX today.  I forgot it had reconditioning mode.

That pretty much described the charger that just gave up the ghost, although it was from the mid-2000s. Its attempt of setting its cables on fire to avoid charging the Maxton's battery kinda sealed its fate, though.

With a severely dead lead battery, I use the old charger to bump the battery up to a point that the modern chargers recognize there is a battery on the other end of their cables.  I basically don't leave a 10 amp charger unattended.

Another option is to add another battery in parallel using jumper cables. That'll get the charger going.
