You do realize that every time something happens on track you should be saying.  "Ohh Daniel son"

You mean this car?

Assetto Corsa FIAT X19 Dallara Nordschleife - YouTube

I put it in the Current folder: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1vME9C0pSEoHrops3ol6xEer_0FAp-C54

What?  You say you can kick everyones butt in that car?  Hmmmm, that seems like a bold statement.....

BTW - there are a LOT of cars available in AC.  One of the easiest way to search for cars is to just put "assetto corsa" before the name of the car in Google, and they will show up.  Many are on Race Department, but the search there is useless.

Thanks!

Funny, I started it and realized that the Corbeu seat i use for my computer chair is the same one that was in my X1/9 almost 30 years ago.

Berkley, I'm old.  Still no signs of growing up though....

How does the X1/9 drive?  The reviews on it say it's a very good model.  Some of the models you can find "out in the wild" can be bad (the is an MGB GT that was horrible).  I am still messing with the Corvair model to get it to handle "right". I think I may need to start looking at tires.

The seat I sit in is the Scat seat that was the passenger seat my old Corvair that I was T-Boned in (no serious injuries but did bend the entire unibody of the car by a good 10 deg).

I had a 944 turbo that was horrible.  They took a gt3 cars handling and put it under the car model.  And the sound was just plain wrong!!!  That X19 would be fun to play with.  My friend has one that was IT prepared that we raced a bunch.  I did several engine refresh's on it.  Fun little car.  A big kids go cart.

You've convinced me. Now how do I change my name on assetto to that?

edit:  CM->Settings->Drive->Player's Name

i think. Will try when I get home

I'll probably hop on later and mess with the Fiats if anyone wants to join.

I'm actually going to be visiting family for the weekend and will be back next Tuesday.  I ran all of the new Fiats and the race version was actually my least favorite, at least at that track.   It's too stiff to take curbs well, and that track has some almost autocross sections where ideally you are clipping but not over the curb and even clipping it in the Corse version really unsettles the car.

I also feel like if someone were to spend the time to really figure that track out they would have a significant advantage.  Unlike most tracks the line isn't obvious due to the size of the car relative to the track.  I'm sure in a kart it would be more apparent, but in my testing for the most part different lines/speeds ended up just trading time between sections with no real benefit to total lap time.  There are also a lot of corners that are between gears depending on how you've done the section and shift point can matter a lot in these cars.  If someone spent the time to sort out what lines, entry speeds, and shift points really work the best overall they would be a tough to beat.

I tried the X1/9 last night.  It's super easy to drive.  I think I like it.

Changed up the server to Vallelunga Club and put both Abarth 500's and 595's's and Mini Coopers in.

Took the herd out last night on valle. That was interesting. The race fiat is seconds faster per lap, and least for me. Look forward to Wednesday.

Good fun tonight. I am just bad at these cars I think.  The BTCC cars are back up and I put the BTCC pack in the folder for those that do not have it.  These could be fun at this little track.  I was really liking the broad torque curve of the Audi in the last couple of races we ran.

I was messing around for a bit after everyone signed off. I like that the steering wheel is on the familiar side for the audi. I work late next wednesday hope to catch the tail end of the session again next week

I had a good time Wednesday night. I just am not as skilled in low power cars.  Towards the end I was getting better.

There are some tricks to driving low power cars.  There are some cars with low power where tire scrub > car power, so lifting off the throttle to get more rotation or have the car tuck in is actually faster than adding more steering input even though you are not grip limited.  This is especially applicable to the Spec Miata, that car punishes excess steering input with extreme prejudice.

People also associate cutting distance vs carrying speed as purely an autox thing, but in cars that don't accelerate there are times when the shorter distance is actually faster, such as T1 at last Wednesday's track.  If there isn't a long enough straight after a turn to use the extra speed the shorter line may well be faster.  It's a trade off and depends on the track before and after so it takes some trial and error to figure out which method may be faster, but it's worth experimenting with.

The last point is braking.  Conventional wisdom is to hit the brakes as hard as you can as late as you can to maximize how long you're at top speed, and it's not wrong.  However, in low power cars managing weight transfer matters more than how fast you decelerate.  The reason is that you aren't going that fast on the straights and don't need to scrub much speed for corner entry, and the cars tend to be softly sprung so hard inputs create strong weight shifts that take a while to settle out.  Since the car doesn't accelerate you need to maximize entry and mid-corner speed, and you do that with minimizing the weight transfer front to rear.  In low power cars I rarely brake at more than 50% power unless it's a very hard braking zone, braking earlier and lighter is just faster and easier to drive than braking harder and later.  There is also the option of remaining on the gas a bit while braking to counteract the weight transfer of braking, but that involves left foot braking which not everyone does and some practice as too much of either input will upset the car.  Some cars like the Mini respond very well to that sort of input, and in that car rarely am I off the throttle even when braking as the back end is so lively that you need to keep some weight back there to keep the car in line.

tl;dr experiment with input methods, both on the pedals and with the wheel, low power cars punish both.

@ Matt

Remember the M5 series we did years ago. GT 5 maybe?  I think we should do a series with that car again. I don't remember exactly what year M5 it was. That was one of my favorite series.  Maybe second only to the VW bugs with NOS.

I wonder if Air could recreate the bugs with the car editor?

It was an E60 M5 with the V10, those were great cars when modified and only owned virtually.  If I were given one for free I probably still couldn't afford to own it.
