Apparently my grandmother died this morning. She was 80, hoovered generic unfiltereds like it was going out of style, and generally hated life and anyone in it. I'm not exactly heartbroken, but at least she won't be miserable, and won't have to make everyone else miserable anymore. We just celebrated her 80th birthday with a party at her retirement condo and that was about the most uncomfortable thing I've had to do since getting teeth pulled. It's funny, because I got the message on my cell while I was asleep, and I heard it and was like "whatever". I've pretty much hated the woman since my father died and she started going through his stuff like it was a treasure hunt. Then my grandfather died and she turned into ultra hoarder pay me for berkeleying everything when I wanted a small memento because I actually liked the guy. So- I say good riddance. I will miss one thing though, she was worth a MILLION hilarious stories about stupid crap she'd do.

Wow, I cared so much I put it in the wrong damn place! I meant offtopic.
Ummm... sorry for your loss?
Well, maybe now you can get that memento that was your grandad's without the hassle.
Such a shame. I loved my grandmother and cried when she died at the ripe age of 95.
Now you can go through all her stuff and she can't complain at all.

I think she hocked all his stuff when she went into the retirement condo. But we'll see.

They hated each other. My grandfather used to mimic shooting her on a regular basis. Towards the end of his life, when he was too weak to sit up on his own, she had the balls to accuse him of smacking her around. But they were good catholics, so they stayed together. I'm just glad it's over. Ain't nothin' left but the cryin' and the weird luncheon in the basement of a church.
Sorry to hear of her passing. So far all the relatives I have lost have been people I was on pretty good terms with, but a couple of friends have had such as you describe and said 'whew'.
We all have to go eventually. Maybe her passing can be an object lesson to others about how not to treat people. When my less than universally loved FIL passed it actually made quite a few others change their lives when they saw the response his death evoked.

Living here in the south, baptists live for that lunch, some of the best food youll ever eat in your life too. My step grandfather said the only regret he would ever have in his life was not being able to partake in the food at his wake
The lady that wrote Mary Poppins died a couple of years ago and according to her own family died alone, loving no one and being loved by no one

We're dominated by midwest lutherans. Cold ham sammiches, jello, and bad potato salad.

Right. I was explaining through all the uh.... Tears while blowing stuff up to the GTA crew that she was a compulsive polyester hoarder and if her house had burned it would have gone for a month and looked like a tire fire. Ahhh the good times. She will be missed.

Bars too. E36 M3loads of bars. Powder sugar everywhere.
When my Grandpa died, we ate ice cream. When we stuck him in the ground, it was 15 below 0. Everyone ate that ice cream. Some had seconds. Cause Grandpa was bad ass.
Too bad your Grandma couldn't have been.

Sorry for your loss of memento?
When I read the thread title, I actually thought that Ade Vigoda had finally made the move.

When my wife's grandfather died we all drank pbr. We all hate pbr. We all drank a lot of it though because that's what he liked and he was super awesome. So I get that deal too. I will probably Irish the E36 M3 out of this funeral, but out of boredom and whatever rather than respect for the dead.
