I came across a customer that has a rough 1990 K75s. He offered it to me for a couple hundred bucks. He said he bought it new in 1990, rode it for like 10 years and it has sat since, but didn't say why. Now it sits outside, with a sad attempt to keep it out of the weather.
I have a couple members of my family that a history with the horizontally opposed BMW bikes, so I know those pretty well, however this is new to me. It has a inline 3 cylinder that lays on its side? I just did a quick google search, so I got the basics.
I'm not going to buy it, it's definitely past project bike, I just wondered if anybody knew these bikes.
I've owned a 200k mile one. They're supposed to be the best model of the K75 series and the engine is much smoother than the K100. Engines last forever if looked after, too.

The problem my research on them turned up is that the driveshaft components can wear down, even if cared for as spelled out by BMW. There are fixes though. They seem like great bikes, overall.
A few years ago when I had the bare Formula Ford chassis, I would have killed for a K-bike engine! I never could find one that was even close to cheap though.

I have a K75RT right now, kind of half-hunting for an S. I like the smaller fairing SOOOO much more. I have thought about buying a rough S and just swapping the parts over to my bike.
You aren't far from me. If you aren't interested, I very well may be.

Well let me know. I don't have a number, because he didn't want to give it to me, but I have an address. He told me that if someone wanted to give him a couple hundred bucks for it, they could have it.
It looked to have all its farings, but its missing a windshield.
I can work with that. I have a couple hundred I would pay for it! I think I even have a friend I can con into helping me tow it home. I'm in! :)

Neat bikes, engine lasts forever, but as noted the final drives are a ticking time bomb and cost more in parts to fix than most of the bikes are worth. I've also read that the engines tend to give off quite a bit of heat, which can be uncomfortable.
