Anyone have any experience with these bikes? I've always liked them, but never owned one. I'm looking at 99 plus since that's when they got FI. Prices seem to be low now.....I've seen later models with under 30k miles for less than 4k.

I know they were the fastest bike made....for about 6 months.

Like Hondas of those years they're stupid reliable. Also, very powerful and heavy.

I would bet they make an awesome sport/tour bike.

At this age it will most likely need some suspension help if you're the type of guy who cares about motorcycle suspensions. Some guys just ride'em and never notice a worn suspension.

All I remember is an article about power curves (as it relates to dyno charts) that used an actual drag race between the blackbird and a hayabusa as an example. Of course, the 'busa smoked the blackbird in optimal conditions, but once the track became slick the blackbird had the advantage due to the less-explosive power delivery. It was able to just hook up easier.

Personally, I like the styling much better than the other big boy superbikes, but I know it's an underdog compared to the Suzuki and the Kawasaki ZX-14 or whatever.

That is all, as usual I am no help.

I rode one once. It was "souped-up". It was scary fast.

Yeah....the busa is just an ugly duckling to me, but it's hard to deny overall it's a very good bike. I like the zx-14, but they are still pricey. I'm looking for another high powered sport tourer and the CBR looks like it is a seat and windscreen away from really being able to soak up the miles. The styling has aged really well too....I still turn my head everytime I see one. You see a lot of them with higher miles, which gives me a good feeling because I tend to put a lot of miles on my bikes.

The suspension does concern me because my k1200s is such a great handler for a big bike. If I can find an old blackbird at a dealer maybe I can arrange a test ride.

Another big consideration is insurance. My k1200s is CHEAP....around 300 per year for full coverage, which is just crazy for a 160+ hp bike. My speed triple is double that and I'm afraid the busa and zx14 would be even worse. I'm hoping the blackbird has a similar rating as the k1200s, but really just need to check with my agent before getting too serious.

Such a bitchin' name for a bike.

I really like this one..... it's a little on the high side, but I like the setup.

If insurance companies quoted policies on name alone, the CBR1100XX Blackbird would have the highest rates of any bike ever made. The name has an R, 1100, an X; no, TWO X'es! Topped with a menacing birdname! It's guaranteed to bisect a minivan full of children instantly.

A guy at my church just got one - he paid $3500 for it with less than 4000 miles. Can't recall what year bike it was - it is the black one.

Girlfriend used to have one. Touring at 140+ mph with camping gear on the back was easy. She had a carbed one. They are strong, simple enough, long lasting and fast. Here she is carving it up on Colorado.

Holy E36 M3. Your chick can ride. Hossing around a liter bike like that is not for the faint of heart. Also, dat lean angle.

It was replaced with a very custom XR600r with a 75 hp engine.

That was built to compete at Pikes Peak (more shenanigans in Colorado).

Which was replaced by a car and my Husaberg.
