Looking at bikes and i see a lot of knock offs that look like old Honda/ Suzuki bikes.

This one caught my eye. A Komoto 250cc enduro.

What is it a copy of?

Komoto

Are any copies worth buying?

To me it doesn't matter. Reliability and parts availability are more important than a smoking deal.

YMMV.

Right. But if its a honda or yamaha clone then parts can be had at any deler or parts source.

Depending on how much of a clone it is, the real parts may bolt on when something breaks. I know the little pit bikes that run the 200cc Chinese 4-strokes accept all Honda aftermarket parts, due to how close of a knock-off they are.

No. go to a Harley dealer and ask for S&S parts. I could be wrong, but if a company produces a product, there's more money in service than on the original sale.

Ural is a BMW clone. Do Ural parts fit a BMW? Would you want to?

The better option is using BMW parts on a Ural.

Same with the other knockoffs, like putting OEM Suzuki parts on a Hyosung 650.

I can't remember which one that is, but you can probably find your answer on the chinariders forum. Some of those Chinese bikes are pretty good value.

I talked to a guy in Pensacola that rode a 250 knock off dual sport. He had had it for a couple of years and had put quite a few thousand miles on it, don't remember the exact amount but it was impressive. He said he'd never had one problem with it. I think he bought it at Pep Boys back when they sold them. You could tell by the tires that he rode in on the street most of the time.

My Chinese 125 pit bike was perfectly reliable. A lousy bike, but good value for the $400 I paid for it. A lot of guys on the Chinariders forum use their dual sports as daily riders.

It's hard to tell from the pics but it looks basically like an XR200 Honda motor and there are definitely 250cc Honda clone engines floating around.

There's also something called a 'Allroad' that looks very similar.

The Chinese "clone" bikes are not really clones to a certain extent. One of the Chinese companies actually bought the tooling and rights from Honda at some point (at least that is what I read).

I have a Lifan 200cc engine in my bike, just swapped it out after almost 10,000 miles. Not to bad considering. Engine still runs good, but the starter clutch is going out, and yes, finding parts is interesting. I suspect I could probably use Honda parts, but I am not sure which Honda to get them from.

I got a super deal on my engines, but similar new engines (200cc) are about $550, pretty good even if you have to swap them every 10,000 miles.

The "clones" are so good, the engine bolts perfectly into my XL125 with only minor mods.
