Quick question do Harley dealers ever negotiate down on price from MSRP. I am looking at a 2010, they have floated a few idea's out like a % of the bike price for gear (which I don't need) or service extensions but not really a price reduction.
Going to pay cash, its a softail.
In this economy, paying cash....dealer would be a fool not to take $$ off to reduce his floorplan payments.

That is what I figured. Willing to do a little under MSRP but they keep adding dealer fee's and the like on top of that which seems odd.

Sure they do. Just like any other dealer. They are all independent, too.

Its this or a 48 which I also like for other reasons. The softail will be much more comfortable.
That's a nice softtail. You'll need a pee pad and some pegs for the biatch, though. I don't know what a 48 is.
It's a buyer's market right now. Used bikes are so cheap it's unbelievable. All that HELOC money that went to buy a bike is now causing problems. If that dealer won't work with you, find another dealer.
Hess the 48 is a cut down 1200 with forward controls and a peanut tank. Its pretty much a factory bar hopper. Used I know I can get a heck of a deal. I looked at a stripped down softail 08 yesterday with 20K on the clock for 8.5K. IF I can pull 1.5-2K off the MSRP cost out the door I would be a Happy man.
OK. Still don't know why they call it a 48. It's a 74 (cubic inches). For just bar hopping, either would be fine. The sportster will be faster and handle better. The softail has the classic "look," and it's a Big Twin, which has certain clout, like it or not, in the HD community. Also look at the new lowrider, I think it's called. It looks a lot like a 70's bike. Big twin.
I don't know what the MSRP is, but two large might be a bit much to pull off it. One large and no BS extra charges you could probably get away with. Unless you can find a dealer on the verge of bankruptcy, then anything's game. I'm sure they're out there. The local dealer here was running radio ads saying as how they'd deal, which is a big change from their previous business model of "bend over, I'm gonna stick it to you with no lube, SUCKER!"
Get them to throw in a complete shop manual set as the deal clincher.
I like the Nightster, but I don't like it enough to buy one.
The 48 looks great but needs a back seat for da b..ches.......
Be ballsy and tell them you want $2k off.
I got my dealer to take off $2k on an '09 Dyna Super Glide in Nov of '08. I had looked at the same bike at a dealer an hour and a half away from me, and the salesman wasn't shy about offering $1500 off MSRP (on ALL new bikes). Two days later, he left me a voicemail that they've increased the discount to $2k. I talked to the local dealer, told them what I could get out of town, and they met the deal.
BTW, I've ridden a Cross Bones. Supple ride, man.

Some goober down here is advertising in the newspaper that he has $40k in some 2010 Harley and will take $27K for it.

Total thread from thread from the dead but there are a ton on 10/11 bikes for sale around here at big discounts if you can live without the 103 motor.

Both dealers are in Wisconsin.
June '11, I got a new bike. Not quite as much discount, but I had them find a bike from a different dealer.

A fireman in New Jersey just won a 2011 Heritage Softail Deluxe with anti-lock brakes in a raffle. He's selling it brand new--I'm trying to make a deal with him. Yeah, it's not the 103, but it really doesn't make much difference except in my head.
If I decide to buy new, I'll go anywhere, but it's getting a little late to be riding home to the east coast from Wisconsin.
I own an '06 Heritage Softail, the only year they made the stripped down version which I like. I don't need a new bike, but I want one 'cause I'm bored :-)

Softail not sure you really need it. Used plus a screaming eagle 113/103 kit might be a better deal. Harley's are finally losing value off the lot like normal bikes.
I would say a 2010 with ABS/security in a heritage is THE deal on used bikes right now if you want a softail.

I don't think ABS was available on the '10. 2011 is the first year for the Softail. Recently, a gorgeous 25 year old girl decided to dart out into the street in front of me on her bicycle. If I didn't have racing experience I don't think I could have stopped my Harley before hitting her or going down. This convinced me I'd like ABS.

I thought late 10's had it, more then likely have my wires crossed. Touring had it in what 09 on the new chassis.

I've got headache producing Vance and Hines--she was a deer in the headlights, she literally froze. The incident probable lasted 1.5 seconds, but it seemed like a lifetime. I told myself, "don't hit her", "don't let this bike go down", and "don't hit the embankment."
Shop dealers. Some think they are selling fashon accessories from what I have heard.
Friend of mine just bought a new FLHTC, Ultra Classic, whatever it's called. I can't keep up with the names. Bagger with all the stuff. The color he wanted, etc., so he had to have the bike shipped to the dealer. They wouldn't budge on the price, but I think that's mostly because they had the bike located and shipped to the dealer, it was exactly what he wanted and they knew it.
As for the ABS, when it came out, it slowed the braking compared to no ABS, according to teh u toobe. Guy stops with ABS, measures distance. Disconnects ABS, stops faster. Now, stopping in the rain on a curve, that might have been different. Takumi could always out brake the ABS guys too.
