Do any of you ride with a DS style helmet on the street?
I'm needing an additional helmet as my 12 year complains the size Large he rides with now is getting too tight. So, new helmet for me and he get's my current HJC IS16

How bad will the sun visor be at uhmmm...sufficient highway speeds?
It'll yank your head around, certainly. I find the visor on my dirt helmet gets annoying at about 50+mph.
With it being 90s and humid this week I was kinda having the same internal dialog with myself - I wish I could get more air in my full face at low speeds. Most people I see riding both dirt and highway in the same trip use one of the modular flip up lids but they are pricey and frankly... a bit goofy looking.
My short term solution is to wear eye protection and take off the visor but if you find a DS helmet with good aero please do share.
I have this one that gets some street duty sometimes. It is loud but you get all kinds of air. I don't really have much in the way of wind issues with it. The design seems to cut through the air pretty well. This is an AFX FX-39. The FX-41 (new version) is likely better. No complaints about the build quality for the price either. I say do it.
I really like that you can run googles under the visor for easy on-road/off-road transitions.
I like dirt bike helmets on the street, by and large.
They've got visors big enough to be effective. Unlike most of the tiny street bike visors. Not all dirt bike helmet visors lift badly, especially if well vented to the rear.
I do like riding with goggles or glasses over a conventional flip down shield. Dirt bike helmets lend themselves to this very well. Far better than street bike helmets do, especially full faced street bike helmets.
The chin bar on a dirt bike helmet is far away. Something I far prefer to a street bike full faced helmet with the chin bar up close. Especially if I've had a cup of coffee earlier that day. Stale coffee breath is never nice. Dirt bike helmets do a far better job of making sure you don't rebreath it.
I've also found the field of vision is better on many of the dirt bike helmets than the street type full faced helmets.
The AFX DS Helmets are very well vented at the rear of the fairing. If the visor is up, it tucks nicely into the fairing. If I was doing mostly in town riding, I would likely use that over my Shoei RF1100 strictly for the comfort reasons that Foxtrapper said.

That looks surprisingly badass
The second thing I did with my Arai XD4 was remove the visor.
The first thing I did with it was try to break my neck checking my shoulder for a lane change at 70mph. It's also berkeleying LOUD above 50mph.
I'll put it back on when I'm heading out for a day of trail riding, but it stays off for the daily commute.
When I first started riding I used an HJC dirtbike helmet. DOT approved with dirtbike goggles. It was comfortable. I did take the visor off because I didn't like how it whipped my head around.
Now I use a full face helmet, but the visor is always cracked open at least 1 click, 2 on hot days. I rode it 2 hours home from work last week on the hottest day of the year so far, and wasn't bothered at all. (Had a full black jacket on too, with lots of vents open.)
The main reason I chose the full face over the dirt bike helmet though, it my full face has a second drop down visor that is tinted so I can have tint on and off on the fly. Best. Feature. Ever.
