The exhaust looks painful.

Yeah it does. I see they didn't ride it. It's only good for just watching it run. Wouldn't ride that.

That is a really clean build.

A lot of nice work for something that can't be ridden.

I wonder why they mounted the engine backwards, rather than the same orientation it would have been in the sled? That would have at least put the pipes in a workable location for among it rideable.

Also, I wonder if the direction of crank rotation makes the nose feel heavier....

Maybe I'm overthinking this and should just enjoy the sounds.

I suppose a seat made of asbestos or it's modern equivalent could be made but it looks like it would have to sit quite high. Also a shielded, padded cover for the chambers would have to be made. I'd love to see it ridden and tested.

Why are you considering this unrideable? Just because Freddie Spencer didn’t like it, didn’t mean it didn’t work. The shirtless guy in the video didn't out engineer Honda - they put 4 pipes on the 1984 NSR500.

2 stroke pipes don’t get anywhere near as hot as 4 stroke pipes. You touch your leg against a dirt bike expansion chamber pretty regularly and never notice the heat wearing jeans or nylon dirt bike pants.

As far as the reverse rotation of the engine – you will notice that the rear shocks compress when reved up, I would think that that would be good. I know that Moto Guzzi get a bad rap with the shaft effect raising the rear when reved.

You guys are missing the best part - finaly a sportbike with a pull starter!

It says they have ridden it just fine.

I stand corrected on that, but still think the chambers would be uncomfortable, at least when sitting at a traffic light or at slow speeds.

As for engine rotation, its not a weight transfer issue, its the inertia that can affect the feel (think about how a car engine moves on its mounts when revved in neutral). It may be good and help keep the front wheel on the ground when accelerating or it may be bad and make the front feel heavier.

It would be interesting to have more info on it.

By the way, where is the fuel tank on the NSR500?

The big aluminum belly pan looking thing on the bottom it that gas tank - lower center of gravity was the idea. A Ducati with underseat exhaust is also not real comfortable. But I doubt that a 700cc two stoke is going to be a commuter bike regardless of where the exhaust is.

Aww... You're crushing my dreams of winning the lottery and putting plates on a TZ700

Look up the Tularis motorcycle, there are some Youtube videos out there. It used a Polaris two cylinder engine (800cc if I remember correctly) and was quite a race bike.
