I never come on this area of the board, due to the fact I spend all my time reading about GRM cars but it look like there is some fun stuff here. I've been working on a bike for 2 years in between my IS300 and 944 work.
It's a 1987 Yamaha FZR1000 U.K. model. The PO brought it over in 2004. Only has 16000 miles on it. It was a bit rough so I thought I'd resto-mod it a bit.
Here's some pics of the build:
When I got it. May 2009.
Figured I'd take it all apart, and paint everything satin black.
Some new parts, gotta do chain and sprockets and of course some good track/street pads.
New shoes. Bridgestones. Skinny 160 rear tires. Yikes!
LOVE black wheels on a bike.
Like a big plastic model, lots of stuff. Where does it all go again?
More parts, hope I know where it all goes...
The 1000cc lump. After 3 hours of scrubbing with a toothbrush.(sorry it's covered)
It's coming along...
Thought I'd brighten up the forks a bit.
It's rolling!!
99% done. Still needs a cool paint job.
I'd love to paint it like this...still waiting to see if my wife lets me keep it.
It's currently at a mechanics house for the finishing touches and certification. he says it's perfect!! We will see.

Paint the whole thing in bright white; I love white sport-bikes.
If you feel the need for graphics, use reflective material in silver; awesome coolness and extra visibility FTW.
It's funny you say that, I feel the same way. I LOVE all white sportbikes with black wheels and black frames.
Chock me up as another fan of all-white sportsbikes.
The bike looks amazing. Sport bikes seem to be be used like running shoes, so they lead hard, disposable lives. It's nice to see older examples kept up in good repair.
As a past owner of 2 new FZR600s and a mint FZR400 that I turned into a race bike, I love me a 80's yamaha. But I love the red/white/blue with white wheels.

Looking good! reminds me of my old FZR600. Speaking of which would you be interested in a fiberglass race tail? It's in good condition/unpainted.

What's it like driving a RHD bike in the US?

That makes me wonder, have the headlights been changed for LHD driving? RHD headlights dip in the wrong direction for US roads.
I don't think the headlights are different, but I could be wrong.
It does have a push to pass button, which is kinda cool. The funny thing is the UK bike was restricted to 125hp. Mine has been brought up to the standard power level by having the restrictors removed from the intake manifolds and larger carb jets installed. I didn't do this work, it had all been done, I assume, by the PO.
It's a fun bike, the mechanic that has it sent me an email saying it quite surprised him with how easily it will loft the front wheel. I get it back tomorrow night! I can't wait!

Thanks, but I'm hoping to keep it original, at least the bodywork anyway. I even have the super rare factory solo seat cowl for it.
