Ok, so I am putting lights and such on my dirt bike so I can ride on the road and I rewired the entire lighting system. Here is the problem. At idle it puts out around 6V DC and bumps up to 12-13V DC just above idle. The issue is when I rev the bike the volts jump to over 20. I am just using a cheap voltage regulator/rectifier
How do I check the VR/R to see if I'm wiring it correctly?

You do have the mounting screw hole grounded right? it need to be grounded to work. Sounds like it not working or not connected to a solid good ground. It works by dumping extra power to the case thus to ground so keep it in air flow or bolted to larger metal sections.

Sorry I didn't get back, just "moved" to my new base. I got a new regulator, at idle the stator puts out around 6v AC and will go over 30 when reved high. The regulator is putting out around 7v DC but the volts drop when the bike is reved even though the stator is putting out more power. The voltage reg I am using is built for a floating ground setup.
