I was in a friend's garage picking up a spiral staircase I had bought from him and this thing was blocking access to it. After Hmmming and Hawwwing it ended up in my garage.

Behold, an almost perfect '67 Yamaha U5E Newport with 514 original miles. The motor turns freely with the kick starter. Ran when parked (estimated to be 1977 or so). The tires hold air. The seat has not a single crack. So far it needs a starter/choke lever, a brake cable, a tail light lens and a good cleaning.

I shall update this after it gets a good bath and I get it apart enough to clean the carb and see if the fuel tank is rusted from the inside.

Cool. I keep looking for a reasonably priced Ruckus. I think SanFord needs one of those on a front carrier.

In reply to Toyman01:

The Ruckus is tough to find reasonably. I would like a Madass/Sachs 125 if I could find one but... I don;t want to pay any real money for these things when a perfectly good 250cc motorcycle can be had for less. I'm not sure I even want this thing once I'm done restoring it to working order because it's actually too nice to be a pit bike bouncing around in the back of a trailer - but I like cool old stuff so I could not resist dragging it home.

BTW, I just discovered it has real oil injection! In '67... how cool is that?

I look forward to your riding report on this.

Prepare for at least half the people who ask about it mistaking it for a Honda Super Cub.

I want to see a picture of you on this thing in all the gear.

Good score! I just missed out on a running one that was six doors away. The guy posted it on craigslist for $350-it was gone in a half an hour. BTW, I had oil injection(Yamalube) on my 1965 Yamaha 80.

I wish this was the U7 motor - I imagine it will be terribly anemic with the 50cc smoker and my 195lbs atop it. I thought it would make a cool pit bike because it's light enough for me to pick up and toss into a truck - but it's super clean and nice so it's probably going to get flipped once I and the kids tire of buzzing around the neighborhood on it.

Sweet! My buddy picked up a cosmetically rough Kymco 50cc last week for $100 that we were ripping around his neighborhood Friday night. I forgot how much fun it is to beat on these little things - WOT all the time lol.
