We now have the Ninja 250 and 300. Honda has the CBR 250 and 300. KTM is coming out with the 390 Duke and RC 390.

Now Triumph is coming out with the Speed single and Daytona 250. Yamaha has what looks to be a production ready R25. For small bike fans, these are exiting times.

YES! Can't wait in a couple seasons for them to come down to my price point. Always wanted a YSR50 / nsr50 / gsxr 50 but they had such a short production run and highly raced they never come down to my price

Yamaha had the Doctor give a diagnosis on the R25.

I love small bikes, I can ride them and stick them in my pocket.

No seriously, as much as I love being 6'4" + there is something about wringing the crap out of little bikes.

Right? On the Twinstar, its Isle of Mann every day.

"I was at redline for 10 minutes."

Do that on a "real" sport bike and you'd be dead.

Two of my favorite little bikes

VTR250

RS50

Even with my, at the time, 220 lb butt on them they were a blast.

Looks like they are all 4 strokes. I'd love for a small 2 stroke street bike to come out.

I know it's not economically feasible, but I'd like to see 250cc 4 cylinder sport bikes like the ones form 25 years ago, but with more modern technology and 20,000 RPM

I still have my CBR125. I should buy a vintage Honda 250 motocross bike, and swap the motor from that into the CBR. Actually, a 250 Husky 2 stroke motor would be cheaper, faster, and more reliable.

I like the small bore bikes. I'm 5'7"/150 and they suit my WFO riding style. It's good to see some new ones. I just hope the Japanese ones aren't all recycled parts from the 80's.

In reply to Flight Service: I didn't know what an RS 50 is so I googled it. Aprillia 50cc two stroke that would top out at 100kph in unrestricted form. 30 mph in restricted form. It would really be fun to toss one of those around.

You can buy RS 50's and GPR 50's here but they're not cheap

Yeah you can uncork them to do about 80 from what I am told. Ex girlfriend rode one. She let me ride it a few times. It was a blast.

5999$ is supposed to be the price. I do not believe it but that is what is getting published.

Well, lets see where everything stacks up in this soon to be crowded field.

Current contenders:

Kawasaki Ninja 300r. 298cc 2cyl inline developing 35hp and 379 lbs wet....for $4700.

Honda CBR300r. 286cc single developing 31hp and 361 lbs wet....for $4500-4800.

Upcoming challengers:

KTM RC390. 390cc single developing 43hp and weighing 324 lbs DRY.....for $6000.

Hero/Buell 250. 248cc single developing 31hp and weighing 306 lbs DRY.....(Price will need to be sub $4k to prevent being buried)

Yamaha RC25. 249cc inline twin developing 45hp and weighing approx 350 lbs WET.....for $4400.

Triumph 250 Daytona......they're being VERY VERY tight lipped about specifications at this time. It'll be 2015 or later anyways.

I'll go out on a limb here and say that the rc25 is going to be the game changer here if that combination proves true.
