I agree they are like Miatas in terms of low-weight, high-grip, high cornering speed, but I've always thought of mine as a two-wheeled equivalent of this:
Not great for a highway road trip, but minimalist, light, and surprisingly quick in the twisties given the off road roots.
With a name like ae86andkp61 you obviously know your lightweight metal. I had to sell my ae86 when I moved cross country to Portland for work, miss that car every day....
