Did you guys see this?Detroit Thunder Drome.
It's an old velodrome that guys are using for moped, scooter, and etc races. Great pics at the link.
Like this...
Cyclists also get in on the action.
Lemans start anyone?
One more for awesomeness
Would someone who lives in the area go and report back?!
That looks like a e36m3load of fun.
(starts searching CL for an old moped and googling defunct velos in Milwaukee)
Last year a video of it getting cleaned up andthe first few races was floating around.
That looks like retarded amounts of fun. For some reason, I doubt there is anything like that in AL.
I will go and take a look. I have wanted to go there since I learned of it last summer.

Dude, seriously, that looks amazing fun. I wish more places would do moped races for shens.
Get some Angry! Will you let us know if this is as cool as it looks?
Hmm.. now that it has hit Intenetfamz I give the city of Detroit 2 weeks before they shut it down due to "liability" unless it's on privately held ground.
Looks fun though

They tried to shut it down last year about a week before the event, but the organizers scrapped together the liability insurance in time.
Still, the "on privately held ground" makes no difference. They can and will shut it down if it gets big. They did the same with Theatre Bizarre last year, and that was all on privately held land with private structures. The city is pushing back hard against any events that portray Detroit as an "anything goes" "wild west" sort of town.
Yeah, if they're not careful, people may actually want to visit Detroit from the outside world! Oh the humanity.

No E36 M3. All this stuff sounds freaking awesome to me. Moped races on an old velodrome. Wacked out crazy circuses you will not want to take your kids too. Riding snowmobiles on the interstate during blizzards. Deer hunting in empty suburbs. Redbull air races.
I'm digging it!

Ok I will compete, should I take the IT400 or the RD350?

I think those are all too big.
Rules state that 110cc's is the biggest engine you can run. That's in the pit bike class. You can run a minibike but it has to cap the hp at 6.5. Looks like it's time to borrow the kids moped, scoot, or minibike.

I will go spectate this event if possible. I do not have a small machine that fits those rules. I have heard that some serious run what you bring racing happens there that is not documented, no cameras allowed. That is what I am going to.
I had a Derbi 50 supermoto w/ an 80cc kit that would have been ~perfect~ for this. Damn.
to anyone not familiar with the area: it's a E36 M3-hole. not the worst detroit has to offer, but within a short (and dangerous) walk of it.
My MB would be perfect for this. 6 forward gears is handy on a track...

Pity they can't get it repaved.

Who wants it repaved? That is it's charm.
That looks like a lot of fun, but that is the most hipster crowd I have ever seen, and I live in a Coastal metropolitan area...I didn't think hipsters had infiltrated the Midwest. But then when I think about it, Detroit could probably be the capital of hipsterism...
I just put much wider tires on the MB, it's surprising how much more awesome it is now. I would be super stoked to lay a knee down at that track.
I'm dying to check that out, but the link keeps freezing up my computer.
