Bike: '74 Honda CB360
Issue: Notoriously bad charging system components. I determined that my voltage regulator and/or rectifier was kaput.
Solution: Upgrade to an all-in-one unit, from a CB600. Like this one.
Looking at the CB360 wiring diagram next to the CB600 diagram, and referencing the pigtail pinout shown, I hooked up the pink and yellow wires (from the stator) to the "charge cable" pins, the red/white wire (from the starter motor relay) to the anode and connected the cathode to the frame ground. At which point, with the key off, the magic smoke came out.
I definitely have continuity between ground and the cathode pin, and between the positive terminal and the anode pin. I also have continuity between the cathode and anode pins on the regulator, which I THINK would mean that I just connected the positive battery terminal to the frame ground via a 14 gauge wire, which pretty swiftly melted (no surprise).
That said, I can't see where I berkeleyed up. Can somebody else see it?

he is helpful on this stuff
Per your schematics, that Honduh 360 appears to be a single phase alternator with an exciter coil, much like an automotive alternator, but with an external bridge rectifier. The Honduh 600 is more of a motorcycle 3 phase system. The two regulators are not compatible. You might be able to get an automotive regulator to work on the 360, but without a good deal of research, I wouldn't do it or recommend it. Wiring would be fairly complicated, I think.
Agree with the Doc. You may well have fried your windings in the 360. You'll want to check that with a meter.
There are generic ones like this one, which can be made to work on a 360: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K4WR156/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_2?pf_rd_p=1944687762&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B009RH85MM&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=00W47E3SQ1XVHGRRGT3Q
But, since you can find them new and correct for as low as ~$40, I'd probably use a correct fit piece. Ebay lists scads of them starting at about $5 used.
