Backorder? Two weeks? GTFO!
Put that shyte back together with a wire crimp and move on with your life. Ain't got time for no moldy towels.

It will burn like 0.5% hotter now and blow out again slightly sooner.
What kind of dryer pops elements to a point they're on backorder?
FYIW, I've experienced a dryer fire before. If we weren't in the room when it happened that could have ended tragically. Personally, I'd kick that old thing to the curb and get something new.

LOL. It's only 2 years old. This is the 2nd time it's been apart - last time a drum roller bearing seized. Whirlpool Duet. Do avoid them.
It's not shortened either - well maybe 1/8" on 4' of nichrome wire. Same resistance. It will be fine until the new part comes in.
We've had frequent problems with our Duet dryers too (we've had two), but the issues are all related to the main computer. I forget the brand of the dryer that caught fire.
