No-not the whole car-just the circuit boards. I've repaired ECU's, TCU's, air suspension modules, and cruise control modules simply by opening them up, placing them in face down in aluminum foil (to keep circuits in the board) and proceeded to blanket-heat the soldering points!

It seems as if so many german cars from that period have solder that loosens up (and barely perceivable) from time and their environments.

If this was one of my "uh DUH!" moments, please disregard.

It's common knowledge on the E28 boards that there are three particular points that allow the car to run right that need reflowed solder to work after many years, so it sounds like to me like a good idea.
