I hate these things. They are active all day long, and they are thick around my house to the point where walking one circle around my house in shorts will usually get me a dozen or trying to bite me. I'm not exaggerating.
I was working on the Xterra today and getting slowly exsanguinated by the bugs. If they bite me and I don't know it, I usually don't care, but I was under the truck and I could hear them buzzing around my head. It was driving me nuts.
We all know DEET works, but it also burns like hell when it gets into your eyes, so I had not applied it to my head or arms.
Then I remembered that during some research into mosquito traps, I read that most mosquitoes can't fly well in even light winds, so I set up a simple box fan to blow under the truck. No more mosquitoes, until I stepped out of the air current, then the squadron of bloodsuckers was all over me again.
Mosquito Trap: I've had some success with these.

Mosquito Egg Collector: I tried these, but it is a bit of work to keep up with them

Fans for mosquito control:
After doing this today, I did a bit more research on it tonight. Apparently this is a well known solution, and it is even endorsed by the American Mosquito Control Association. I'd never tried it until today, though. Now that fan is going to come out every time I'm working on the car during the summer.
