Fly part complete. Both flights on time and bag supposedly made it so a win in my book given the mess of travel recently. Just waiting for the bag then off to the hotel for the night.
The road calls tomorrow.

Lol. Yeah I'll be flying for that one. 3 hour flight trumps 27 hour drive!!

damn guess no shirt for me
It would fit in his carry on...
Almost to savannah. Rain and holiday traffic is slowing me down in GA.
So couple first impressions.
1. Drives great for a 205k car. Hums right on down the highway.
2. Tom wasn't lying about the stereo. It's a good setup.
3. I forgot how tall it is. I haven't felt this short in a car in a while.
Back to the road.
Good luck on the trip!
The lack of pictures is concerning though ... did it happen if there are no pictures?

hehe - i have been assured mine is on its way :)
we will eat $18 avacado toast in Feb and sport our GrM shirts in the process
This is the only photo I took for some reason, and you can't even tell that bmw88rider is in it (he's putting his bags in the trunk). We were rushing since he's got a bunch of miles to cover today.
Hey everyone. Just settled in for the night in Asheville.
What a day.
Started with Tom picking me up in the stormtrooper GTI. Had a great ride to ormond beach with some good conversation over the noise of some trashed out tires. Enjoyed the cruise over and it was a good way to start the day.
Got to Tom's place and after getting attacked by a roomba, got to see the element. Exactly what I expected. Overall in really good shape for something that now has 205k miles on it. Bolted up the metal temp tag and off I went.
Happy new owner.
What other magazine owner is going to do all this? Satch Carlson? Peter Egan might? David E. Davis? Casbe Casere? (Yes, not all are alive but Shecky Greene still is)
That's why we all love the GRM family.....
So took off and flew through Fl to the georgia state line.
Then all heck broke loose. I was not expecting this much holiday traffic today. It was thick and stop and go a lot.
My view pretty much to Columbia, SC...brake lights.
Cleared columbia and it started to downpour for about the next hour.
Finally got clear of that and the cruise to spartensburg was really nice. The Element really appreciated the hard run I think because it is purring like a kitten. Easily driving like it has half the miles listed or less.
Then the climb into Asheville. Fog. Thick thick fog. Followed a semi most of the way so I could see. Add in some construction and the last hour was a bit interesting.
So I think I am parked in my campsite. Can't see anything so I guess I'll find out in the morning!!
So just a tick under 600 miles down today. Glad I brought my own beverages as there is a water boil notice in Asheville area.
Tomorrow will take me across tennessee with a lunch stop with some friends in nashville area. Camping tomorrow night in the Mo ozarks.
Cheers to everyone and Happy New Years. Time for a beer.

You know, that was part of the conversation that Tom and I had was how awesome this crew is. It truely is a good group of car peeps.
Congratulations! I'm glad you're enjoying it!! Already getting sentimental now that it's gone on an awesome camping trip without me, but it sounds like it's in great hands. And sorry for not showing you around a little more--I didn't want to hold you up any longer than necessary.
Good luck tomorrow!
Good morning internet! Been watching too much itchy boots.
So had a great night sleep and fell asleep right away. Well since I was asleep at 8ish...that was 2:30 this morning. So I hit the road.
The theme for today london calling. So much fog. Already travelled to where my stop was for today. Soooo going to see how far I can make. 5pm eta if I mqke it the whole way home. With the fog, not missing any sightseeing. So we will see. Already to the IL border.
Wish me luck.
So sitting in Columbia, Mo for a lunch break. Feeling good. Little Jimmy John's action.
4 and a half hours left so should make it home no problem. 1100 mile day and the element is performing like a champ. The sun finally came out and its a great afternoon to cross missouri.
Just an FYI that these in AWD with an turbo kit are fantastic sleepers. Maybe a headgasket before hand for good measure.
