EVs might be all the rage these days, but there’s still a market for giant luxury SUVs. How do we know? Because manufacturers keep making them–like the Infiniti QX80. As tested, ours stickered at nearly $88,000.

It’s bold, it’s big, it’s luxurious. It cuts an imposing figure while bathing its occupants in luxury. Leather surfaces? All of them.
But this instead of the all-new Lexus LX? If we were a buff book, we’d line up that faceoff. But, let’s be honest, we’re Grassroots Motorsports, and you’d rather read how to brew your own gasoline for your Miata.
So here’s a hypothetical faceoff.
The Lexus has a certain heft that Infiniti still hasn’t captured. The LX line is all new for 2022, with the model now powered by a 409-horsepower, twin-turbo V6. The LX starts at $88,245.
The big Infiniti costs a little less with MSRP starting at $70,600. The Infiniti’s 5.6-liter V8 also makes a tick less power–400–but let’s call it a draw.
But does the Infiniti look better? Lexus continues along with its current design language–insert your own thoughts here, although suddenly we’re checking the shadows for Cylons–but the Infiniti has a more restrained look. Can we call it more handsome?
And is the Infiniti the better value here? So maybe we’re still GRM. The Infiniti might give up some details to the big Lexus, but when factoring in price, perhaps it’s the winner in this faceoff.
Okay, now about brewing that gasoline.
