You know it’s a party when John Doonan, the president of IMSA, shows up.

Or Jim Downing, co-creator of the HANS Device and one of Mazda’s most-celebrated drivers.

Or Connor Zilisch who, at 17, just became the youngest winner at the Rolex 24 At Daytona.

Or Howard Duncan, who ran SCCA Solo for decades.

Or Selin Rollan, MX-5 Cup winner.

Also in the spotlight that evening: the factory-backed Mazda RX-7 GTO plus a Mazda 767B and the Classic Mazda MX-5 Cup entry driven by Zilisch.

The evening’s entertainment also included Hot Wheels racing.

How much to join the party? Nothing. Just show up this past Saturday evening at Orlando’s Classic Mazda.

We brought our Garage Rescue Miata and spent the evening talking to old friends and making some new ones.

I bet that 626 is rarer than the RX-4!

Does Doonan have any affiliation with Mazda? I'm sure he still has lots of friends from his time there.

How about a shout-out to all the grmers who spent the weekend volunteering, crewing, spectating, and *competing directly* with cars like this driven by someone like Travis Pastrana?

This party actually started with an encounter with John Doonan several years ago.

And that 626 was way rare. I knew a dude in college who had one. Today, you rarely if ever see them.
