I was just drooling over a rusted-out 914. Can't wait to read more on this.
“This is/was a 1972 Porsche 914 that I absolutely gutted,” starts the build thread by GRM forum member Tazz9924. That’s not just a roll cage, though, as the body is rolling on a full tube chassis.
The goal: less than a ton at the curb, about 1000 pounds of downforce, and up to 500 horsepower courtesy of a turbo Subaru.
(Sidebar: He’s also setting out to build the world’s fastest lawn mower.)
A number of years back, someone showed up with a built 914 Rally car, complete with a fully-built 3.3L and an actual Formula 1 wing chopped down to a narrower width. It was cool AF, tons of high-dollar bespoke parts, though seemingly not very good as a rally car and not sure if ever finished one (I saw it at Sanblast in like 2016 or so, and I think it DNF'd on the first stage). IIRC it was for sale back in 2018 or so (sans the wing), no idea what ever happened to it
