It only hit $67,500. Things are not looking good for those hoping to cash in on the Supra.
This 2020 Toyota Supra Launch Edition will be on offer—with reserve—this weekend at Mecum's Louisville auction. Will it suffer the same fate as this Bring a Trailer auction, or will this one sell for over MSRP?
Auctioning a brand new car, that's funny. That reminds me, my email address somehow got into a list where used supercars are advertised for sale, and I saw someone selling a build slot for a Bugatti Divo - as in the car hasn't been built yet, complete with factory pick-up experience. I'd like to see the looks on the Bugatti people's faces when a different person shows up to collect the car from the person who ordered it.

Good. New car speculation should not be a thing. I hope every dealer that tries to gouge people suffers the same fate. You are killing the sports car, you shiny happy people.
Sincerely,
The 05/06 ford GT, Lexus LFA, the type R, the new NSX, the GT350, the C8, the alfa 4C, the golf R, the M-family, the Porsche GTx family, etc.
$67.5 is still 10k over sticker. You'd have to be nuts to pay that. I told my dealer to keep it when he tried to charge 3k over sticker for an RS. I bought it at sticker from the same dealer just a few months later.

What sort of Ouroboros of hype is it when this starts to be a gauge of how successful something is; whether or not it attracts scalpers?
I was there and watched it not sell. It was among three or four other brand new cars that didn't meet reserve that day. I... don't understand the appeal of this car, nor of buying a brand new car at auction.

It's not meant to be a barometer on the success of the new Supra; it does serve as a stark reminder that putting all of one's eggs into a single basket could lead to a disastrous result.
Think they realized that they better sell it now as depreciation is hitting hard and fast on these BMWs.

The Ford GT actually sat on the dealers lots and sold for well under MSRP when new. The LFA's did most places too.
